Title: Ice cream headaches feel good Post by Katherinecm on Aug 15th, 2006, 1:04am I'm one of those people that gets triggered by heat. Several times in the recent heat waves we've had in the midwest I got ice cream or a frozen drink of some kind and downed it very fast during mid-level attacks. The first time I did this I felt that ice-cream headache, but suprisingly it felt GOOD in comparision to the CH attack. Almost as if it was cooling down my brain. I drank more, so fast that my back hurt with too-cold too. Since then I've tried this a few times. I don't know if maybe it's just a distraction or not, but it seems to help. Has anyone else noticed this? |

Title: Re: Ice cream headaches feel good Post by paulc on Aug 15th, 2006, 1:17am I have and the "ice cream headache" is just a distraction; personally, I find them worse than a CH (can you imagine a 2 hour ice cream headache several times a day?) :o |

Title: Re: Ice cream headaches feel good Post by Katherinecm on Aug 15th, 2006, 1:20am actually, my ch attacks feel much worse than an ice-cream headache. like one only with added eye stabs, the pain radiating down my neck and jaw and sometimes into my ear on the side of the attack. I'm just always suprised when something excruciating before now doesn't hurt at all, or, in this situation, actually feels good. |

Title: Re: Ice cream headaches feel good Post by nani on Aug 15th, 2006, 1:31am For me, there's often nothing like a well-timed Slurpee. Doesn't hurt though...just feels nice and cold when I hold it up against the roof of my mouth. |

I'm sorry about that. I posted the link because so many people here in the past have asked about their rights regarding disability, and my company said I was covered under the same laws that protect someone with migraine. For future reference if you want to comment on something personal you may want to either send a personal message or start a new thread, just to keep things on-topic. |

I have to go with my friend from across the pond on this one. "Brain Freeze" headaches are nothing like a ch. IMO. |

Title: Re: Ice cream headaches feel good Post by maureenv on Aug 15th, 2006, 3:09pm You know I have never had a ice cream ha. I always thought maybe it was cause of my ch. I have even tried many times to give myself one just end up hurtin the chest from the cold. Sounds like something I don't need to experience though, will just stick to what I have ;) Somehow I don't think I'm winning :-/ |

Maureen, first of all, yes, you are winning. You are here, where you can learn about CH, get information, and most important, support from other CH'ers. I think what Katherine was saying is that she discovered if she drank something icy cold, it produced an "ice cream headache", and it became somewhat of a distraction for the pain she was experiencing with her CH. In my personal opinion, anything anyone can do to "distract" from the pain of a CH attack is worth trying - anything. But, unlike PaulC, also, in my opinion, an ice cream headache does not hurt worse than a CH. In the first place, I've never had, nor heard of a 2 hour ice cream headache, and even it that were true, I would take the ice cream pain over CH pain in a second, no matter how long the ice cream pain might last. Nothing compares to the pain of CH. So, Maureen, like you said, stick to what you have, and read everything you can. This is the best place for information you will ever find. Sandy |

God, after reading some of the posts about MY reaction to ice cream headaches-and I wrote "imagine a 2 hour ice cream headache", not that I have them, it appears as if some people want to start a thread that becomes a fight. I'm really glad that I didn't reveal that I am a Muslim Mexican! Oops, I guess that I did. I think that Svenn's fears are coming true. Oh yes, I did have brain surgery by Dr. Frankenstein at his castle-boy did that bolt of lightening hurt! :o |

Not talking about you. Why'd you think I was? Nope. There's a little one floating around--just a tiddler, but he's annoying. I think I've figured out his real name and his IP address, but that's it so far. Man, I really like learning about text analysis. Not very good at it yet, but it's improving. Makes it easier to spot the returnees. Use of language is as individual and unique as a fingerprint. Go in peace. Kumbaya. George |
