Title: Allergies and Clusters
Post by hbomb on Jul 22nd, 2006, 12:02pm
Hello again to all of you heroes.  This is Hbomb and I am back after 2.5 years being PF.  I wonder if any of you can provide feedback on the following.  I have had CHs for about 30 years (Episodic) but I have never had Allergies.  I live in Western Pennsylvania and since May have had a big time allergy problem. I also am in the 7th week of everyday clusters.  This is the longest cycle I can remember.  Finally, my question:  Have yo experienced bad allergies this year and if so, are your CHs different than usual.
THANKS FOR READING.

Hi HBomb,

Sorry to hear you are doing battle again. I've often thought there is a relationship between cluster cycles and allergy in my case. Also stress or post stressful situations along with the alergy season. I tend to get allergies in spring and fall in the So. California desert. Fortunately I only get hit with a bad cluster cycle every few years or so. I still can't pin it down for sure, but it does seem to be related. I don't take antihistamine anymore when having particulary bad allergy attacks incase stopping the symptoms may cause a cluster cycle to break out. May be just superstitious about that. I hope your cycle breaks soon. Prayers for you, Rich

P.S. I like your quote!

No allergies that I know of.

My H/A's have been pretty much the same.  Got hit this spring, but I expected it.  Due again (as far as I can calculate) in the spring of 2009.  Very happy they're getting farther and farther apart.  Hope the same is true of you.

Best,

George

I'm in PA also, on the eastern side and I'm allergic to everything except cigarette smoke (nice huh?) Grass, pollen, mold, dust, animal dander, etc.

Went through the whole round of testing the first time these HA hit, you know, back in the Oh-dear-God-I-must-be-dying phase.

And to answer the question, well, they are bad but I'm trying a new route with as few meds as possible and I only get hit every 3 years or so.

A lot of people have posted that they're having "strange" attacks this year and the cycles are longer and worse than in the past. I'm chronic and usually keep things under control (except during "high cycles") but this year have been having a little more trouble than usual.

The sinus is affected during a CH attack, so it stands to reason that alergies can play a part in them. I think most of us have been thru the "allergy trigger" at one time or another.

I even took all the carpet out of my house (hated the stuff anyhow) and I can breathe better, but it didn't help the headaches. I may try dusting next... :D

Hugs BD

Thanks for all of your comments on Allergies/CHs.  I think I have come to the realization that every day, every week, every month and every year will be different with these damn cluster headaches.  Just go with the flow and keep in touch with this great support network on Clusterheadaches.com
Things could be much worse.
