Title: Awesome neurologist in Raleigh, NC
Post by Derrick on Jul 21st, 2006, 7:31pm
Hey ya'll, just wanted to give a heads up about a great Dr here in Raleigh NC....Dr. Konanc at Raleigh Nerology accosiates. Very knowledgeable about CH and understanding about the pain. Had a nurse do bloodwork to look at the hypothalimus (no problems). an EKG for the Verapamil (again no problems) a CT scan on the 31st, to rule anything else out. He offered O2, however, I declined b/c I have access to it at work. Put me on Verapamil, a prednisone taper, refilled my imitrex injections (btw, the imitrex tip on here works great for me, ask for vials and your own syringes). Also, gave me a scrip' for torodol which I haven't used yet. W/ my insurance it was only about $150 for everything!!!!!!

I finally feel great, even went out for drinks last night w/ some friends and only shadowed for about 45 minutes, then partied like a rock star!!!!

If anybody wants his number I'll be more than happy to give it!

Hi Derrick it's nice to meet you and thanks for the info. Always good to have a heads up on CH receptive docs.
Tell us a bit more about yourself, we're looking forward to getting to know you especially since next years convention is going to be a mere hop, skip and a jup from where you are  :)

Hey, I am a 30 yo male from Raleigh NC, also I am quite easy on the eyes...had to say that! I started having CH's about 10 years ago, then they disappeared.......they came back last winter, BAD. I thought it was my sinuses, but then they disappeared again. I have since been in cycle for a little over a month, and decided at 30 years old I am NOT going to live like this, so 3 days ago I went to Dr. Konanc.

Supplementary, I also take 300mg of magnesium and around 400-500mg of co q 10/ day, along w/ 6-9mg of melatonin at night, must be working, as I havent been hit at night all week.....that about covers it for me

You're not the first to have had a long spontaneous remission, lets hope you have anoher but let's get you armed for all possibilities too. I'd suggest you do take your doc up on the O2 - you're not at work for those night time hits and they can be a proper bugger.

I love your attitude, fighting back is what get's us through, never give in. You'll win this round and if it feels like you won't then we'll coax, cajole and kick your butt into shape!

Lots of people swear by melatonin and I've read of ch'ers being magnesium deficient so those are all good strategies which are obviously paying dividends, its good to see someone new being well equipped.

Hey thanks, it is b/c of all of ya'll that I found out about the condition and suppliments, I really appreciate it, and I mean that!........I am WAY to young for this kind of crap, so it WILL get beaten. Also as far as 02 at home, I thought about it, but like I said at 30 years old, I am not going to have a O2 tank....sorry. It does work great though when Im at work!. Also being single, I think thats the last thing a girl would expect to see when she walks into my room....

I'm single too and I'll tell you something for nothing.. us females of the species would sooner see an O2 tank than a kip10!
If they can't handle that much then you haven't got much of a future with them anyway hon. I'm sorry if that sounds brutal but I think its better to be up front than scare people off because they think you're about to turn into a werewolf or something.
You are too young, but there are alot younger than you too. CH is no respecter of age or gender sadly. Don't deny it, fight it, I hesitate to say "accept" it because I for one will NEVER do that but I do accept that I have it and that I need to do what it takes to have as much pain free time and quality of life as possible.
O2 tanks come in sizes the equivalent of two 2 ltr bottles of coke stacked on top of each other. That's pretty discreet even by MY standards!
Don't discount anything and listen to me - I'm not as thick as I look!  ;;D

Hey Derrick and welcome!

You made me laugh too with the easy on the eyes bit hehe...anyway as far as hang ups about getting the oxygen--not too long ago all of the A-list Hollywood movie stars were going where...to oxygen bars...remember that fad???  So if all of our Hollywood hunks can do it you can do it too!
I am single too and if I meet some hunky guy and he doesn't like my oxygen tank I will just tell him that it is my own personal Hollywood beauty secret.  Seriously, Derrick, you have a good personality, no gal will care about an oxygen tank...take care.

Good morning ya'll- He said that some research shows that the hypothalimus or maybe thyroid gland, which regulates the carcadian rythem (sp) may have something do w/ all of this.

I've already taken the liberty of adding Dr. Konanc to the list.  Thanks Derrick.
