Title: Mononucleosis
Post by starlight on Jul 19th, 2006, 7:05pm
Hi guys and gals--

I just had a random thought to throw out there.  I am now 32 but I started getting clusters when I was 14.  I also had a bad case of mononucleosis that had supposedly ended right before I started getting these headaches.  The mono that I had had supposedly gone away and then came back like a year later b/c I never rested--I am the type that doesn't like to stay still :).  The second time I had it it was worse (doctor said that can happen if you don't rest.) It was "in between" these two bouts with mono that the headaches started.  I have other thoughts but long story short--could there be a connection?  Or just coincidence?  Anyone else either had mono AT ALL or had mono shortly before onset of headaches?

I know that this is a weird thing to ask but I am just wondering if there could be a connection between mono and clusters...???

My freshman year of college lots of people on my floor of my dorm had mono. I got sick at about the same time for quite a while but never got tested. So I might have had it.

see this page:

and it links to a page on the neuroimmune hypothesis.

Katherine--I am pretty sure that people can have mono without knowing it or being sure of it.

Floridian--thanks so much for the link--I find that to be really interesting--this finding of higher Epstein-Barr antibodies in people with cluster HA.  My case of mono were unusual in that I had it pretty mild, didn't rest AT ALL--then I got it BAD and it was actually what they term "chronic mono"--it lingered the swollen glands and tiredness for about a year and a half (again probably not resting enough).  But the headaches came on in the middle of those two bouts.
I think there could be some kind of a link.  I'm glad they are exploring that idea.
PF Days and Nights to Everyone,
