Patrick,The Oregon HealthPlan makes it so everyone can get medical assistance, regardless of income. Open your phone book, and look for the facility in your area. Please!
Next, I want you to take the cluster quiz.......
<-------------------over on the right, in fact read all the stuff over there....especially about 02.

Yes, they are called suicide headaches......... but I want you to bear in mind, even though the hits are horrendous, they will NOT kill you! You will NOT die from CH, and, once you can find the right tools to manage your pain, you will not feel like suicide is an option!

I hope this starts you on the right track. Please keep talking. There is a TON of help here for you, and soo many people who care!

Hang tight, things can only get better!

Wishing you PF(that's pain-free)

Cathi

I will try again with the Oregon health plan.. but last i checked.. they changed it to only females with childeren can get medical help .. single males have no such luck..
they changed it recently.. within past couple years.. so unless i go knock up a girlreal quick..  im sol.. .... and if i go to a doctor what all do i ask to make sure this is what i have?...  people around me doubt my pain... and im unsure myself.. i just know i cant wake up like this anymore... i know alchohol affects me HORRIBLY worse than anyone else i know.. if i drink a beer.. i swell up like a allergic reaction..  before i read this sight.. my mind kept tellign me its somethign with ciruclation... and the more i read about vascirulation the more i believe im correct... nicotine from smoking im sure constricts blood vessils.. and my sinuses are shot..  and have been.. so .. i will call them again.. but im pretty sure its only for females now... heh .. guess men are supposed to sink on the ship :\

Patrick, there is a LOT going on with you medically. Only some of it can be attributed to CH. PLEASE take that clusterquiz.
Yes, it is true, alcohol is a trigger for most Episodic Chers.
However, there are a LOT of smokers, and I cannot think of one who refrains from smoking in cycle.
If you have a sinus infection, you HAVE to see a DR. it WILL not go away on it's own.......get an antibiotic in you, and start to sort out all that's going on. You are much too young to lose control of your medical situation now.
First step, take the cluster quiz.......... please??????????

Hi patrick.

Sorry to hear about your pain. As stated before try taking the Cluster quiz and give us the results.

Beer is a trigger for most, while I was episodic it would be a huge trigger when I was in cluster-period, now that I'm chronic it normally doesn't trigger an attack.

Title: Thank You

Yes im trying to quit smoking as well.. but anxiety an stress  :-/.. im really starting to think its vascular.. constricting of bloodvessels.. and when your asleep.. your heart rate drops .. so woudnt that cause for lack of blood around the brain?.. so nicotine constricts veings.. and alchohol things the blood making blood pressure drop even more?... im deffintly not a doctor.. but thanks to you guys i believe im finding answers.. i will take the test right now...  so so far.. stress nicotine glare and poor circulation and sinus infection are mine enemies.. .. but god its so hard to acomplish all the things needed to be done when your broke... im gonna be tryign to get a dr to take me in.. and hopefully this can change... my body is riddled with poor quality.. my lymphnodes are all swolen and i constantly feel deydrated.. i will put down a tall glass of water in my sleep... i probably drink 8 quarts a day.. and sleep feel dehydrated.. .. but i just have to try to pound thru waking up this way.. it ruins my day .. and im so tired and beat down halfway thru ... but anyways.. thank you and any information and cont support.. is awsome.. thanks again

Patrick

Title: the quiz
Post by calderos on Jul 15th, 2006, 4:58pm
apperently 9-16 is alot of yes.. and 1-9 are nos and yes's but i have just started experience this so im not sure of it all.. when i press on my neck the pain gets worse.. and i just cannot function or think while this pain is happening... i can barely speak or do anything.. just try to endure.. always a hot shower.. i get like maybe 4 hours asleep before im awaking into this pain.. and it comes at me as i wake like a rush of thobbing pain.. but once im awake and upright for like a half hour it eases up... im yet to experience this during the day unless i lay down.. but if i bend over or stand up i get light headed.. especialy at my work.. i work freight crew so alot of bending and lifting.. but i think that is more towards my sinus.. .. i also have a wierd thing that i dont know if its releated.... as i begin to goto sleep  and enter into a restfull state ... i get hit by this shock.. that is so alarming and scary its hard to describe... i had it off and on over my life.. but now its every night before i goto sleep... it feels like i get hit with a hallow steel  bar across my head or zapped with electricy... its so violent.. it has knocked me off a couch before.. and its so alarming it makes my heart jump.. and my whole body quake.. and i try to shake it off.. but horrible to be that vunrable to be rdy for sleep and be attacked..

sorry so long of posts and so rambled.. my mind is just mush lately.. and lack of sleep is killing me.. i havnt slept more than 8 hrs in 2 days... thanks again

I also do not have insurance, but to my suprise, my new nuerologist saw me for about 200.00 and they will let you make pymts.  IN addition to getting to a doctor ASAP, you should try Melatonin at night. It will help you with the sleep and may help you with the other issues since you will be rested enough to deal with them.  If all else fails, go to a community hospital ER.  They have to treat you and you can make pymts as low as 10.00 a month.

Good luck and keep us updated.

I'm sorry you are in pain regardless of what you have.

We are not doctors so please get yourself to one immediately. If possible a headache specialist!

Not all treatments work for everyone and being that you have no meds @ this point nor have you been officially diagnosed, there are a few things that might be able to give you some relief non-medicinally.

For the time being you could try melatonin to help you sleep.

With CH'ers many can prevent nocturnal attacks using 6-12 mg 30-40 minutes prior to attempting sleep.
If you are on any medications that effect seratonin levels PLEASE talk to doctor or atleast a pharmacist prior to....

Some tricks that I used to use and sometimes still do are:
*Wrapping a bandana tightly around my skull (be careful)
*Filling a sink with scaulding water creating a steam bath and placing my head over it with a towel covering
it.
*Going from Steam to Frigid shower.
*Standing infront of A/C
*Icepacks or frozen veggies on the back of the neck or eye
*Tons of STRONG coffee.

Good luck, please find help somehow in the medical community for if CH there are tons of treatments to help ease things a bit. If it is not then ( not to scare you) it may be something far worse.
we will not die from CH but it may make us pray for it while in the midst.

Best to you and stay positive!!!!

E

What EE said --

One more thing -- get some RED BULL energy drink and drink the whole can (fast) at the onset of a HA.

CH mirrors sinus infections (a lot of people have been misdiagnosed with sinus problems).

Stress is not usually a factor with CH (some cases but not many) - relaxing is.

I keep frozen peas in the freezer for ice-packs.

Melatonin is good for rest. It takes a little while (couple of weeks) to get in your system, but has been a life-saver for a lot of us. Kudzu has worked on several people. You can get both these at a health food store.

Go to ER - they can't turn you away. Tell them you need O2 at (at least) 10 liters per minute with a non-rebreathable mask. O2 has been the "drug" of choice for most of us.

Pain meds don't work so don't let the ER docs try to sedate you. It just makes you goofy and doesn't help the pain.

Take the quiz on the left and if you do have CH - then you really need to see a neuro and get diagnosed and get some prevents.

Keep us informed.

Hugs BD

That works for me better than anything else.

I hope that you'll find what works for you asap. I know that the docs don't tell you that might take a while before that happends...(mine sure didn't and I have met 6 of them... :-/)

I wish you lots of PF days,
Sanna

He Partick, my name is kevin.  I'm a clusterhead of 4 yrs.  I had surgery last year, trigenial noralsia, excuse my spelling.  No more pain, pills, or horrible terror.  My doctor, Dr. Mathews of Houston Medical Clinic referred me to Dr. Wayne Hurt, also of Houston.  My entire left side of my head is numb, as the surgery killed all of the nerves on that side.  He is a Godsend!  email me at pixlerkevin@yahoo.com and I'll fill you in on the details and phone numbers.  Good luck and God bless!!
