Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by frizzle on Jul 14th, 2006, 6:24am Ummm let's see.... 12 hours of unmedicated labor and delivery? Nope Stitched to repair said delivery "issues"? Nope At this point in my life I think the only thing I'd find more painful than these headaches are the thoughts that I'd pass them on to my 2 sons. |

Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by unsolved1 on Jul 14th, 2006, 7:50am Broken bones & kidney stones were a 'walk in the park' compared to a CH attack for me UNsolved I'd rather break my leg everyday ! |

Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by sandie99 on Jul 14th, 2006, 8:39am It's the worst pain I've ever felt. No question about it. And I can tolerate a lot. PF days to all, Sanna |

Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by georgej on Jul 14th, 2006, 10:37am Hmm. Physical pain, mind you.... Dislocated shoulder? Nope. Full facial hit of pepper spray? Nope. Compound fracture of arm? Nope. Not even close. If there's anything over a 10 during a CH, I don't think anyone who's ever gotten one could tell us about it. They're dead. Regards, George |

Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by Weatherman on Jul 14th, 2006, 12:11pm Well I have to disagree with unsolved. I have suffered from CH for 15 years and have had several kip 10's. I've also had bouts with kidney stones. Most of the kidney stone attacks have been quick and relatively easy. But once, the stone became lodged in the "tube" between the kidney and the bladder. I've got to tell you, that pain made a CH seem like a walk in the park. I never screamed so loud in my life! I collapsed from the pain. They had to come take me away in an ambulance. They had to hold me down the whole way to the hospital as I thrashed about screaming! I spent the next 3 days in the hospital on some of the best drugs ever ;;D When the stone move into the bladder the pain was instantly gone. That's the only time I ever got hit like that from a stone but it was by far the worst pain I have ever felt in my life! The bad thing about CH is the pain is almost as bad and it comes a whole lot more often. I havn't had a stone in 3 years and the real bad stone was 6 years ago. Doug |

I've always lacked an analogy when I've tried to explain what it feels like to have a CH to people who don't have them. I think I'll use this one now. "Imagine you're trying to pass a great big kidney stone through your head....." Best, George |

Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by JeffB on Jul 14th, 2006, 2:00pm I've done so many stupid things and was even mauled by a German Shepard that almost ripped my left arm off but I have to say the pain in the brain was/is the worst so far. |

Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by walkertexasranger on Jul 14th, 2006, 4:32pm Nope, nothing worse. I must have had 100 stitches in my life, broken arm, lit cigarette shoved into the back of my hand, cut the tip of my finger off in a running lawnmower (dont ask), and CH pain is by far the worst. People who have never had one simply do not understand. Mark |

Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by brady713 on Jul 14th, 2006, 7:42pm I agree that anyone who hasn't had a CH cannot relate to the level of pain. I had a 10 a couple of weeks ago. The pain was so intense it blacked out memories of being taken to the hospital. No wait in the ER after ramming my head into the concrete wall a couple of times. I was given oxygen which was a joke. Then 5mg IV morphine on the 5th morphine shot several ER docs had to see for themselves that I was still completely sober and hurting. Then came the Dilaudid 3mg IV/hr. Stayed in the hospital 2 days on a Dilaudid PCA pump. |

Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by Charlotte on Jul 14th, 2006, 8:30pm As a young adult, I disolved the lining of my intestines by taking aspirin with orange juice. It was bad, but it only happened once. When I healed, it was over. Any other pain may have hurt but was a one time deal. These are the worst for me because they keep coming back. |

I had stones twice while taking Topomax. The first time I required an immediate Lithotripsy surgery with a stent left in for over for a week. The second time I passed them. It was a painful experience ... but clusters go on and on and on. That's where the torture is. UNsolved |

Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by Thomas_Martin on Jul 15th, 2006, 5:01pm hmmm.. I have had one that was close. Around ten years ago, I broke my nose by accident. The accident being having one of my friends saying "hi" to a complete stranger who was kicking a lamp post. That greating and me having no chance in hell passing a sobriety test earned me a new nose. Anyways, that didn't hurt that much as I was drunk as hell. What hurt was getting it rebroken a week later using local anaesthetic, as the good doctor didn't use enough of it. around a kip 7-8. The kip 9-10 happened when I got home from the hospital and the anaesthetic stopped working. I remember walking around our living room crying while saying "someone kill me... please" for about 2 hours . |

Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by paul2006 on Jul 15th, 2006, 11:07pm I fell over and landed on my elbow and head on concrete about 4 feet lower down the driveway. When I woke up a few minutes later after knocking myself out, I got up and walked into the house. I obviously looked a bit of a mess and my girlfriend's son asked me was I OK? Telling him I was, I went to bed, with what I described as 'a bit of a sore elbow'. The next morning I woke and after a few coffees, went outside and drilled about 30 holes in 1/4 inch cast iron pillars to attach a fence in the barn. I complained about a 'sore elbow' again that afternoon. My good lady looked at it and said that my elbow had a cricket ball attched to it!!! She insisted I went to the ER. After X-rays, they found I had fractured my elbow and knocked a chip right off a bone. Did it compare to a CH? Not at all. Nothing compares to a full blown K10... absolutely NOTHING!!! And I'm no 'hero'!!! |

Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by BobG on Jul 17th, 2006, 6:19pm The pain examples mentioned above are all physical. Cluster pain is unique to itself. There is no other pain like it. Excruciating. Exquisite and pure. But, there are also mental and/or psychological pain that can be absolutely devastating. The pain of losing a spouse of 50, 60 or 70 years. Or, the pain of having your 11 year old child suffering through chemo-therapy only to die from cancer. No, I have not personally experienced those loses but do know of those that have. It can be a horrible, nasty, long term pain deep in the heart and soul. There is no scale to measure that type of pain. |

Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by Mattrf on Jul 18th, 2006, 4:01pm Only one thing that has ever happened to me can compare and that was having my neck fused. They say about 50% have a rough time and just my luck that was me. I can only really go by what my family told me since I have no recollection of the first five hours after the surgery except severe pain and wanting to die. I had no idea of my surroundings or the fact that my wife and father-in-law where trying to pin me to the bed, it seems I was trying to lift my entire body with my neck and trying to rip the collar off my neck as well. I had no idea how much time had passed when I was finally able to notice my surroundings and that there where people standing around me but it was 5:00 in the evening and the surgery was at 9:00 AM. So for that five hour period I would have to say it was worse, but, that pain went away. :( Matt |

Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by mr.c on Jul 19th, 2006, 2:08am Okay... Um... Let's see, two herniated discs in the neck. Nope. As far as emotional pain that compares to a Kip 10... I lost my sister to suicide a few years back... They say "Time heals all wounds..." Well, for the most part that is true. Yet, CHs don't let you forget for too long... But, would I want to go through chronic Kip 10s to have my sister back...? No. I believe in a life after death; I'll see her again. AND she would not want me to be in the kind of pain that would make me choose to commit (or contemplate) suicide. |

Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by Derrick on Jul 21st, 2006, 11:17pm back in 1996 we flipped 3 times in my buddies jeep and I was left a SHATTERED left shoulder. It was was a humeral head break w/ multiple fractures. the ER doctor mis-diagnosed it and I was stuck w/ no real pain medicine for 3 days after until I saw the orthopeidic surgeons my mother works for. I was finally given morphine, tylenol 3 and vicoden and scheduled for emergency surgery at 6:30am the following day. When they finally operated, the Dr. said the shattered bone and torn muscle looked like a puzzle! I was left w/ and still have 2 screws and 2 washers wrapped in wire to hold my shoulder together. post op I had a morphine drip... A bad CH in the middle of the night makes that stretch of days and the resulting physical therapy seem like a day at the beach, and given the opportunity I would trade to do it over.... -Derrick |

Title: Re: worst pain ??? Post by kevinpix on Jul 23rd, 2006, 5:21pm I have great news for you! I'm a 36 yr old male. I have been a clusterhead for over 4 yrs. now. Last year, I had trigenial noralsia, excuse my spelling, surgery. My doctor, Dr. Wayne Hurt, killed all of the nerves on my left side of my head, my cluster side. I'm a chronic clusterhead. Now, no pain, pills, or terror filled nights of agony. He is a Godsend! I do have fantom itches on my nose, though not bothsome. Half of my tongue, inside of mouth, and my eye are also numb. No big deal. I keep my eye moist with lubes over-the-counter. Very easy compared to the hell I was having to deal with. email me back and I'll answer any and all questions you may have. Good luck and Godbless! |
