Title: Shadows
Post by bluebrain on Jul 6th, 2006, 9:54am
Is there any who will help me with a definition of shadows using your own words to describe it, do you have pain during this phase? symptoms? I think this phase has not been studied enough, maybe it can help us to get a better picture of what is going on inside our head during a CH.
Best regards. Bluebrain

I consider the meaning of a shadow as having some pain (and/or other symptoms) but it's not a full blown cluster. A shadow for me is less than a KIP 5 or so.

What unsolved said.

For me, it's a low-grade discomfort in my temple that's fairly constant once my cycle is truly underway.  Sometimes it ramps up to a kip 4-5, but usually it's in the range of a 2-3.  The shadows are the last thing to disappear, even after my preventatives are working.

Shadows for me are the uncomfortable feeling in my stomach of "oh sh%$ here it comes" along with a clawing sensation in my head, kip2-4, that never really goes anywhere. I'll sometimes get the eye droop and the runny nose. Not like a hang over headache, or a head cold head ache, more of a cluster headache without the real pain.

I agree.  The center of my cycle has continuous shadows floating in and out--the feeling that one's coming, and some of the symptoms, but only a little pain, kip 2 or 3, and then gone.  That and constantly feeling as if I've been poisoned for about two weeks.  I don't know any better way to describe it--as if I've been poisoned.  Could be that's sleep deprivation, though...

I'll go to the Kip3-4 level for shadows.  Five and above is a full blown CH in my book.

Yep, I believe I am currently at the peak or downfall of a cycle as I am starting to experience shadows more than actual full blown 5 or above attacks. Where before (like for the past 2 months or so) they were hellish\burning\ unbearable attacks, with severe runny nose and eye droop, lasting 20 minutes or more, they have now changed to a stabbing/throbbing, but somewhat tolerable, pain; and only lasting about 5-10 minutes at a time. Also becoming more frequent and not on schedule as they were before these past few days. I define this as shadows.
