Title: Strange voices during Kip 10....
Post by kingsiren on Jul 1st, 2006, 2:06pm
While I was away I had 2 Kip 10's that both lasted 6+ hours. During the course of these attacks, It seemed like the various pains in my head (u know throbs, stabs, squeezes, etc.;) took on different voices. The first attack it was like a battle of good vs evil. I told my strict Irish Catholic cousins this and although they had a laugh they thought it was nuts that I was having nightmires like this while i was awake. The next attack the voices became the French Footballer Zidan, The Protestand Irish Minister Ian Paisley and Englands Queen Mother who were all present while I gave a "headache recital" to the Dutch Royal family....so bizarre. i know the brain has really strange ways of dealing with intense pain. I have been in a very bad car accident and went onto shock and dont remeber a bit of it although everyone tells me I was wide awake and conversing with the paramedics, the doctors, police and my friends. Does anyone else have strange almost trippy like dreams when having a sever CH? I have been tested for every other mental deficiency and brain defect known to man before I was finally diagnosed so I know that I am fairly normal, just wondering if I am alone in this strange experience

No, never really heard any voices here. But some medications can cause hullucinations, mental, neurological and physical problems. Were you on medications when you experienced the voices ?

Goodluck,

Probably.  Never heard of anyone with this.

Personally, I'd like to hear the voice of Bobby Darin singing "Mack the knife" and hoping he gets here soon.

I am only on Topomax at the moment, nothing else. And i may need to explain further, its more like I am having a waking nightmare and the pains in my head take on personas, they dont tell me to do anything strange (or stranger than usual), I think its just a way of my brain dealing with the overloading of the pain circuits. I'm not bi polar, or manic, or psychotic or any of those good things (yet) and I hadn't smoked in over a week when this happened. I had a similiar experience during my last episode as well. I just got my 02 refilled so by the grace of God I won't have to experience a Kip 10 again anytime soon. I also tried using Red Bull for the first time at the onset of a CH and it seemed to work. I have to tel all you people that if I didn't find this site when I did 6 years ago I would probably have taken a long walk off a very short pier by now.....thanks for all the help guys I really do appreciate having a place to share and pick up such valuable info

are you sure someone didn't have an old Monty Python re-run on in another room. The Queen Mum, a French footballer, the Irish prime minister and the dutch royal family. Oh My. There's a skit in their somewhere. We just need the doctor to keep popping in and saying, "I'm no Doctor!".

And now for something completely different.

I'm not sure if I've had the same thing but when I'm peaking with a kip 9 or 10 I often hear distant voices off in the background even though no one is home and the TV is off. It's like a room full of people are all chatting but I can't really hear what they're saying. I dunno....weird. I thought it was just me!

I dont hear voices, but I do hear loud music or previous conversations replaying in my head.  If I heard a song during the day and get hit with a 8-10, I will hear that song as if it were blasting in my head.  My mind races and I replay arguments I had that day.  I used to think I was going nuts, now I know that I am already nuts!

Nope-only voice I hear is my own talking to God and asking for strength.  Oh, and my husband praying.  And my son saying "Poor mommy".  Could it be the Topamax?  Or you may be absolutely right-it is your brains very creative way of distracting you and dealing with the worst pain known to man.  Regardless of what it is, praying for some PF time for you,
Kathy

In my last cycle I had a few Kip 10's that also lasted about 6 hours. While I was in the middle of them my mind would race and I'd also hear a song over and over and over--or--I would think of the weirdest stuff and not be able to rid myself of it.

Exactly.  That happens to me during hits over a kip 8.  I don't do meds, either...  The same thoughts or incidents playing over and over in my mind.  Wonder why?  No voices, though....

Only thing I hear during a 10 is the impact of the nearest blunt object against my head...

Ahh the voices... I thought I was the only one...

When I first experienced clusters 2 years ago, during one such "killer 10" bout, I swear that I heard a voice in my head, telling me to sell my soul, to let the pain stop... My gf (ex now, who woulda thought ;) ) was with me, and I told her in between head banging session on my wooden floor...

When I told my neurologist about this (basically that the pain was making me crazy, and I started to hear voices)... He said in such circumstances of extreme pain, it can happen...

Guess it's a way that our logical thinking brain trys to rationilize with the irrational torture that we experience.

One night I had a kip-10 and was begging for death. I was glad I didn't have a firearm in the house because I would have used it. Then I realized first I couldn't pry myself up from rolling around crying on the kitchen floor to get to a firearm even if I had had one in the house. Second, I thought, "Who am I kidding? It probably wouldn't kill me. I'd probably end up paralyzed or something and in the hospital but still alive and feeling this pain even stronger. After all, I get stabbed in the eye every day and that hasn't killed me yet." I started laughing through my tears, I thought it was so ironic. Pain does strange things to your brain. As long as you're not hearing the voices when you're awake and not having an attack, don't worry about it.

Either that or consult a priest now...   ;;D

I once went for prayer at the charismatic church I used to work with and had someone tell me a demon of pain was attacking and it was my fault as I hadn't taken reponsibility for getting it out of my body. I don't know about a demon of pain, but I know I was tempted to strangle her. Idiot. I don't go to that church anymore. I hardly go to church at ALL anymore. I'm thinking of becoming catholic because they seem to be the only christian church that doesn't blame the sick person for being sick. They find spiritual worth in suffering instead.  They find spritual worth in voices, too.

Funny about the Priest comment...

When I experienced the voice thing and got no help from the Neuro about the voice thing, on advice from my crazy religious family, I went to see my local parish priest.. (I was up for everything)

He told me I was manic, not possessed, and on his advice I went to a hospital, and thus was hospitilzed for a month (wrongly so, when it turned out I was misdiagnosed, and all this was due to my clusters, the pain that comes with clusters, and the effects from the drugs I used to fight the clusters)...

I bet I'm the only one ever to be thrown into a padded room cuz of a cluster (twice actually)...

These headache truely made me temporarily insane I guess...

Oh and I often known to ask for people to kill me in kip 10s, I beg for death constantly, and although I'm not religious that much anymore, I pray to Jesus, God and the saints, cry (funny for someone who never crys), and well we all know how it goes.....

Nope your not the only 1, i was put on a 28 day hold after the first time i tried to top myself (before i was diagnosed) as i was deemed to be a risk to myself and others. They let me go after 14 days as at the time i was episodic and my cycle ended after being there for 9 days.

So interesting, I too play the same song over and over again in my head when I have a hit. Good knowing I'm not the only one that does this. Think it's some kind of calming thing? It's usually one of the 'oldies' like RR. Amazing how helpful it is to have others  say honestly what is happening in their lives with this monster beast, thanks all. :)

Try 15mg of Haldol-it won't do anything for your clusters but it will make the voices, music, etc. go away and keep you out of the rubber room in the local psych hospital-woo woo! :P ::)

during my time in the hospital (mental health at this point, due to the trauma from my cluster ordeals), after flipping out, from pain and utter despiration, they injected me with halodol and literally throw me in a quiet room(aka the padded room).

Strangly, this padded room was not so padded. In fact it had a big window, overlooking little sit down place for the doctors/nurses to have lunch or whatever (seemed almost as if, I was there entertainment).. I tried kicking out the window.. And gave the doctors below a great show i guess..

Basically though, I was allergic to haldol, my throat ended up closing up.

So basically I passed out, suffering, and almost died.. In a unpadded "padded room."

Scary thinking, that anything you say while in there, is often overlooked due to the nurses thinking your crazy, not even calls for water were answered... It took me passing out, then waking up, to finally get any help...

Talk about traumatic.
