Title: relief???
Post by jamieann on Jun 18th, 2006, 8:42pm
hi, i am new here but have been suffering from what i believe to be episodic cluster headaches for about 8 years

i wont get into what a nightmare it is to try to get a reasonable diagnosis from the quacks i have been to...

i am just trying to find treatment options because although some things provide temporary partial relief, nothing really works to stop them

butalbital has helped to an extent, mostly because it knocks me out... but for that same reason i cant take when i need to work

if i combine anti-inflammitories with a hot shower when it is just beginning sometimes it provides some partial relief and sometimes delays the inevitable for a little while...

aside from that nothing else seems to work

any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated

Hi Jamie, there's a number of things you can try to abort a cluster.

Some good info on the left side of the board

Yeah, what Sean said.  Oxygen is a great place to start, along with the water x 3.  Also, the first post in CH Specific, "Hints" is well worth a read.

This is the best single source of info on current therapies.

Here is a link to read and print and take to your doctor.  It describes preventive, transitional, abortive and surgical treatments for CH. Written by one of the better headache docs in the U.S.  (2002)

Hi Jaime,

Sorry you needed to find this place, but there is 100's of years worth of cumulative experience here.  None of us are doctors, and we cant diagnose, but we are expert patients.

Many of us have had difficulty in getting diagnosed over the years as well, and have suffered in ignorance of what we really had.  Now first things first I want you to understand that there are conditions that can mimmic CH, and some of the meds we use can be dangerous and/or downright deadly for someone who doesn't actually have CH.  Print out that onfo from the link Bob posted, take it to your Doctor and demand a referal to a headache specialist Neurologist.  From there, he will do a few tests to rule out any other organic cause of the headaches and get your diagnosis figured out so you can start a treatment program.  Many conditions that mimmic CH are much more easily treated, and for your sake I hope this is the case for you.  If not, and you actually have this horror called CH...Welcome home.

Keep us posted as to the progress with your treatment.
