Title: what are these? Post by maffumatt on Jun 9th, 2006, 8:23pm I have been getting odd headaches for awhile, it feels like my brain is sloshing around in my head. Every movement of the head is painful. It would be around a 5 or 6 on the Kip scale but I can lay down and sleep it off. I don't get many of them maybe 1 a month but if I don't sleep them off they last for hours and hours. I only get them when I am in a CH cycle. When at home they aren't to bad but like tody I had one for around 6 hours while I was at work. Matt |

Title: Re: what are these? Post by Charlotte on Jun 9th, 2006, 8:29pm Do you get nauseaous and sensitive to light, and are you able to be still and not active? It may be migraine. I get them frequently towards the intense ends of the mini-cycles within the never ending cycle. Charlotte |

Title: Re: what are these? Post by maffumatt on Jun 9th, 2006, 8:41pm I don't get nausea, but bright lights and sounds are pretty hard to deal with. With CH sounds don't bother me but with these any sound is annoying. I did try a trex injection for one and it did not make it go away. Matt edited to add..........if 2 ML works for CH would the same amount work on a migrain? Or would it need to be the full .5 ML in the vial to be effective? |

Title: Re: what are these? Post by pattik on Jun 9th, 2006, 8:43pm Matt, Sounds a lot like meegrains :(. Any moving around can make them worse, and sleep is usually a good way to get rid of them. Are they on the same side as the CH? At any rate, if you are in a CH cycle, your trigeminal nerve is already hypersensitive. So migraine triggers could happen more easily. You may want to track your eating habits to see if something you're eating could be triggering them. I'm sorry to hear you have one more thing to contend with. Hugs, Pat edited to add: if the trex didn't work, then it makes me more concerned. |

Title: Re: what are these? Post by Charlotte on Jun 9th, 2006, 8:47pm Did your scalp feel like a wasp stung it? Do you have certain sensations that accompany kind of headache. Do they occur at home or at work? Also, do you have a relationship with a doctor? I don't have a solution, but if you monitor yourself for some of the things that occur simultaneously and take your triptins as early as possible, it may help, for in the future. If I miss the beginning of one, meds don't help much. Charlotte |

Title: Re: what are these? Post by maffumatt on Jun 9th, 2006, 9:12pm no my scalp doesn't hurt, it starts like a shadow then progresses from there, it does hurt worse on my CH side, but also at the back of my skull, not the neck. For me CH is pretty predictable, when it starts I get twinges behind the eye, next my upper teeth on my right side start to hurt. If they go numb I know its time to take a shot because in a few min they will start to scream, and i know the CH will be an 8 or up. If they just continue to ache it will only be a 5 to 7 and I don't waste trex on those. With these the teethe ache, I get twinges behind the eye, then within 20 min or so it feels like my brain is sloshing around in my head and it kinda burns, not my scalp but my brain. I know your brain doesn't "feel" pain but thats what it feels like. Ecedrine migraine doesn't work on them, but a BC powder will lessen it for awhile, but untill I go to sleep it will be there. Even a 45 min nap will get rid of them. I've had them at all times of day. |

Title: Re: what are these? Post by pattik on Jun 9th, 2006, 9:28pm All I can add at this point is to relate how my migraines were for me (don't get them much anymore). I would describe the pain as "throbbing" from the temple on back. Any movement, especially bending down and picking something up, for instance, would make it a lot worse. Movement is the enemy. Lying still in the dark would be the best thing, and sleep would always get rid of it. After being caught a few times without any meds on me, I figured out how to deep-breathe them away. Unfortunately, this hasn't worked for my CH. |

Title: Re: what are these? Post by mzrolwes on Jun 14th, 2006, 7:27am Sounds more like a migraine to me. My migraines start slowly and you don't know how bad they are going to be until too late. I tried Imitrex for them but I could never catch them in time for it to work. Zomig is the only thing (that I know of anyway) that will get rid of a migraine once its already started. Excedrine migraine doesn't work. Period. Although it works for my husband's migraines. He's lucky enough to get an aura about 30 minutes prior to an attack and can take the excedrine and a coke, close his eyes and it won't start....lucky bastard. |

Title: Re: what are these? Post by Katherinecm on Jun 14th, 2006, 3:30pm For very mild migraines those powdered mixes (I think it's BC Powders?) of caffeine, aspirin, and tylenol help me, especially when swallowed with a caffeinated drink. For bad migraines nothing has ever helped me except for Topamax. It has terrible side effects, especially if you taper up too fast. But it was somewhat effective for CH for a while. You might try that. (I have had an intractable migraine along with my CH ever since this episode started more than a year ago). Katy |

Title: Re: what are these? Post by Charlotte on Jun 14th, 2006, 3:52pm I'm sorry, Katy. There's nothing like a combo plate. Charlotte P.S. Guys, I wear pants when I have migraine, not a dress. But please post us a picture when you finally pick one out. |

LOL. Actually the migraines aren't bad compared to CH. It's almost like having a constant sinus infection with occasional vomiting. Annoying, but in comparision easy to live with. It's frustrating to never feel good though. I'd like to see the picture too! |
