Title: Vigorous Excercise
Post by jhgnopain on May 19th, 2006, 2:15am
I love to work out and try to do so at least 3 times per week.  I have not done so since the beginning of my current cycle around mid-April.  I have found that overheating and excercise will trigger an attack.  I am just wondering how long I should wait before I attempt the gym again?  My past cycles have lasted 2-4 months.  Any thoughts on this would be most appreciated...

I myself have been told that increased exercise actually helps...and it does (just a little though) for me anyway. What meds are you on? And what kind of exercise do you do and how often?

For me repetitive excersize helps a lot. The muscles have to burn but no sweat.

Same here. Like any other trigger I dont tempt fate until I've had 2 weeks straight of PF time.

jhg,

i am a runner and it is a trigger for me when i'm in cycle. i am also stubborn as hell. while I'll stop drinking, i won't stop working out/running when in cycle. i have found that O2, particularly for exercise induced cluster hits, is incredibly effective.

do you have an O2 set-up? what that means is that I have to run from home and finish at home as my hits don't come till about 10 minutes after I get done running. i have gone to the gym and felt it coming on and had to rush home to get to the O2 (wrong time for heavy traffic). but, if I fight like this and try to keep some semblance of my normal life i feel as though i'm winning against the beast in my own way.

hope that the input is of some value.

Each of us is different, and for myself, overheating in most any form is a trigger.  Just being in an area that is hot and muggy can do it.  For others, vigorous excersize is a good coping/abortive activity.

As chewy states, if it's a sure trigger, stay away untill you are sure you are out of cycle.

Exercise is the only thing keeping me going at this point.  It is the best way for me to cope.  I have not noticed it as a trigger, nor does it abort, but it helps my mind deal with the bull crap of a situation.  Working out 2-4 times a day for 10 weeks is wearing me out.  I'd probably be ripped if not for the fact that I am sooooo frickin' hungry after a hit that I eat just about everything I can get my hands on....lol.

I've been episodic, then chronic and now episodic again. I have exercised throughout my ch time, but not during attack. I did try that fwe times, as it has helped some folkes in here. Not me, though...

Perhaps you could start by doing some light exercise at home, you know, to try if it's okay? I agree that don't go to gym until you're sure that the cycle is over.

Best wishes,
Sanna
