Title: Progressive Bifocals
Post by Lynn91 on May 4th, 2006, 12:50pm
Anyone heard of these triggering cluster headaches?  I have worn single vision for almost 40 years - recently went to progessives since I am approaching 50 - started having intense headaches that went into several days and nights of cluster headaches.  The first time I had them was at age 27 during pregancy - due to high blood pressure.  I have a just a few short term times of getting them over the  years - ususually in the Spring or following a cold.  This was the worst time ever!  I am back to the single vision old glasses while my eyes readjust - don't know if the lenses were too strong or if I just can't wear progressives.  I used a combination of megadoses of melatonin, nose strips (I got the runny/stuffy nose effect) and a humidifior in the bedroom at night.   I have had alot of relieve - so far - I am scared to death to even try bifocals again.  I feel very groggy, tired and out of it still.  Unfortunatly doctors won't listen to me - think I am drug seeking!  I don't know if it is because I am female and of a certain age - but they think I just want attention.  Unless someone has had these headaches - they just cannot understand.  Any advice?

Anything that irritates the trigeminal nerve can trigger cluster headaches in some people - sinus conditions, problems with glasses, intense sun, flickering light.  Those things are not the cause, but worth avoiding if you are sensitive to them.

You may want to pay heed to the docs.  Some of what you say doesn't sound like clusters.

Nose strips? - the runny stuffy nose is only present during an actual attack (15 to 90 minutes long).

High blood pressure doesn't cause clusters.

Advice - see a neurologist who is familiar with clsuters for an accurate diagnosis.

I've been episodic for 26 years, worn progressives for about the last 3 years. I haven't seen any relationship between the two. Good luck!

Your HAs sound suspiciously like sinus HAs.

Nose strips, dehumidifiers for clusters? Dont sound right.

Have you been DX with clusters?
