Post by lizzard71 on Mar 30th, 2006, 9:27pm
I wanted to know if anyone has ever tried a drug called Alprazalam It's ageneric form of Xomax. I think I spelled It right. Anyway I'm new to this site and I have suffered from these attacks and have tried pretty much everything but this has seemed to work for me. I just wanted you all to know.

;;D Hello,
I dont know about Alprazalom being a genaric form of Xomax but I do know that its the chemical name for Xanax which  is a tranquilizer used in the short-term relief of symptoms of anxiety or the treatment of anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorder is marked by unrealistic worry or excessive fears and concerns. Anxiety associated with depression is also responsive to Xanax.

Xanax and the extended-release formulation, Xanax XR, are also used in the treatment of panic disorder, which appears as unexpected panic attacks and may be accompanied by a fear of open or public places called agoraphobia. Only your doctor can diagnose panic disorder and best advise you about treatment.

Some doctors prescribe Xanax to treat alcohol withdrawal, fear of open spaces and strangers, depression, irritable bowel syndrome, and premenstrual syndrome.
Xanax is a benzodiazepines.  This class of medications is very addictive and not really for treating cluster headaches. more for anxiety disorders and for short-term relief of the symptoms of anxiety.
I recommend reading the imformation on this and other Benzo's such as valium on Healthsquare.com and I would really reconsider using this drug especially long term !!!

It's not a treatment for cluster although, because it works quickly, it will ease the tension/anxiety often associated with cluster. Not to be used regularly, i.e., every day for weeks.

For cluster treatments:

Here is a link to read and print and take to your doctor.  It describes preventive, transitional, abortive and surgical treatments for CH.  (2002)

Sailpappy said it best. I would only add that diazapines and the like tend to make one sleepy or drouzy and this will trigger the demon into action.
all the best
very addictive

Thank you for your replies. I was just looking for some new ideas. About 3 weeks ago my neuroligist had an  idea about getting an IV drug done which was a steroid and a seizure med called Depacon. I was uneasy about trying it but i did, well needless to say it worked for about 3 hours and then It hit me like a mac truck, I had the worse headache yet. So i get a little scared to try new things because I've tried so many and so many have failed. I just hope this cycle ends soon It's been a month non stop for me and I'm drained. I am  pretty lucky that I dont get them every year or all year, I feel for you that do. Anyway thanks again for your replies!
