Title: How DARE them judge me? VERY LONG
Post by erikadb on Mar 29th, 2006, 11:48pm
[smiley=bash.gif]  As some of you know I am now 7 (wow!!) pregnant and suffer from cluster headaches. To myself I think I have been doing just a kick-ass job coping with these f***kers since I became pregnant, stopped Topamax & Neurontin, stopped everything OTC except my Flinstones, and have made it by on one bottle of Stadol per month (again I have severe clusters and have been on this for 6 years soooo....). Well finally the other day, week 27, went to store where my girlfriend with me says "you look like someone just Crayolaed the left side of your face red!!" Me: "damn it" I knew what was coming, then my coup de grace w/ these headaches...I actually bleed out of left side of my nose as well, and t his happened, and not only then my eye was watering but I was crying (you would be too!) so the Japanese lady (we live in Okinawa) starts yelling "blood tears blood tears". THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING?? By now the pain has set in and I am one unhappy camper let me tell ya - which baffles all those who assume they are MIRGRAINE experts. I am crying and yelling and worrying for my baby, and the doctor asks me what do I take in a abortive attack that the headache is as bad as this and I say Demerol 100mg Phenergan 50mg IM. SO I get it and it stops, but I get none of the "Narcotic side effects" people look for, no euphoria or feeling good or dizzy or tired, nope I just vomit. Then here is the rant: the NURSE and OTHER DOCTOR come in and start lecturing me about drug use in pregnancy and how I may have just killed my baby so I could GET A HIGH (exact words), as I listened to my little girl on the monitor her heart beating away here legs kicking....So I ask, who the hell says these things to normal people who happen to  need some pain meds let along PREGNANT ONES!! I felt so judged and it made me feel awful....maybe I did hurt baby, I couldn't help it...no they told me I wouldn't....but the whole thing keeps playing in my head. OK thats my rant!!

Pregnancy and guilt go hand in hand. Is this your first? Welcome to parenthood. You never stop caring and wondering if you are doing the right things by your kids. I am 51 and mine are grown and I still feel like that. Plus emotions run extra higher when pregnant. Ignore the ignorant fucks out there. You and your baby will be alright. The little one probably got a good nap out of the deal lol.

Check with your OB and have them consult with your neuro...there are some meds you can take while pregnant.  Not sure of the exact trimesters that you can take them so check with your docs.

Good luck to you and your new family.....

Mia

Honey,

Don't let people "Should" on you.... You take care of YOU and do what's best for YOU. They don't walk in your shoes and they don't know what's best for you.

Do check with your doc about what's good for you and the baby, but other than that - YOU do what's BEST for YOU and JR.

Hugs BD

Wow, sorry to hear you are having CH's while pregnant to boot.
There are however alot of alternative measures that seem to work well that would not be as harmful to the second party.
As for the doctors and the lectures, thats their job. However, if your own doc doesn't understand the pain you go through, then it's time to shop for another.
I stopped going to docs and neuro's years ago and started playing around with any alternative I could find. Best move I ever made.
The junk everyone seems to be taking all over this site is far worse for you and your body, say nothing about the pegnancy.
80% of the meds have side effects of headaches, WOW, just what we need.

Good Luck.........Steve

Hi,
While I am not an advocate for taking a Narcotic during pregnancy.......and I am only a CH supporter..... i only hope to bring your fears to rest. I have an excellant OB. I have 10 children...yes! ages 2-20yrs. I have a condition with my kidney (Hydronephrosis..swelling of the kidney due to lack of urine flow) which while pregnant was SEVERE. Nothing like a Kip 9 or 10 like I witness my husband have, I am sure!! Anyway, my very good OB had me on a Narcotic for pain, as needed( from 5 month to delivery). I wish I knew how to download a picture of my kids so you could see how beautiful and Healthy they ALL are. I rarely told anyone of my usage on fear of being "judged"...your child will be fine!!
Do talk to your doctor as the rest have suggested...., some drugs are safer than others during pregnancy. BTW I see you have a due date of 6/24. My son, born on 6/23 is 'the fairest of them all"
Wishing you a PF and happy pregnancy!!
Lizah

That is also my son Elijah's birthday!  He'll be 3 this year. ;;D

As for what to take and what not to, I say talk to your O.B.  I am not a good judge for that, as I wasn't in cycle with my 2 pregnancies.  I do advocate as little drugs as possible tho.

Take care,
mel

OH  FUCK HIM!!!!  I undestand the NO EUPHORIA part very well and I have been accused of being out for a high before as well.  I cant tell you what to do about the baby we here are all sure that you would suffer as long as you could before doing anything that MIGHT even make your baby's heart beat a little faster.  Understand this that pain meds are given FREELY during pregnancy espcially STADOL  I have worked a several hospitals where that is thier drug of choice and it is given for hours sometimes.  I am sure that LIZZY would have more to say on it.  My job was always to stand by for the worst and the only problems I ever had in deliveries which I have been doing off and on for 13 years now has been with the herion or crack mothers.  This is just another classic case of the Doctor doesnt know SHIT about clusters!  Dont let them lecture you!  Any doctor that you go to see WORKS FOR YOU  and you can FIRE THEM!!  You can tell your nurse that you do not want to be seen by that doctor and ask for another.  People sometimes dont understand that aspect of it.  I have done it many times before.

GOOD VIBES
