Anyone have any suggestions for breastfeeding with ch. I currently take any Imitrex I can get. My doc says there hasn' t been any studies about the effects so I'm taking my chances. There doesnt seem to be any adverse affects on him so far. I cant take any preventive meds cause of the breastfeeding. I also get Indocin and Vicodin to help with the Imitrex. The neuro gave me Relpax to try, but I can't get off the Imitrex for 24 hrs to try the Relpax. Other than that its off to the ER for the O2. Any suggestions would be very helpful. My son is six months old and will not take a bottle or eat baby food, he's very stubborn. But we're working on that too.

Hi Clustermom...I'm so sorry that your sick...My baby (of four)is four months old , at 5 weeks i had to stop breastfeeding also due to a return of clusters..My doc said to stop breastfeeding,the baby will eat...but, absolutely NO Imitrex or anything other than tylenol...and he was right!!!the baby is the best darn formula fed child in the world ;)

First off, I am surprised your doc hasn't prescribed O2 for you at home? Why hasn't he/she?

Secondly, from what I gather, anything you take in, any medications, passes into the breastmilk. Here are a couple links on medications and breastfeeding...

My dr did give me an rx for o2 but the insurance didn't want to cover it and there was no conveient place to get it. I was also at the end of a cycle and kind of just gave up. I have had ch for seven years, but this is the first year where it is being treated as ch. It took a long time to find a doc to help me. My old dr said ch only affected males, and a few others said that I just had allergies or sinus infections.

ask your doc for refferal to a neuro, i know my nuero (and most)will get on the horm with any insurance company and lay them out!!!lol how are you doing with the kids???

Carrie is right. Definately ask for a referral to a neurologist!

I am a mom of three, and my middle son never took a bottle at all so i understand where you are.

I am currently breastfeeding an almost three month old, I only use O2.

I'm going to be really honest with you here...the amount of meds you are on sound not so good for your baby or you. Specifically, How often are you taking the imitrex?

You really should talk with your pediatrician about the meds you are taking. And please have the pediatrician and your neuro check the most current guidelines for Imitrex an breastfeeding from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

If the O2 works, please have your neuro call the insurance company. You and your baby are worth the effort. If you need help figuring it out send me a PM and I'll be more than happy to help. :)

HI Clustermom... welcome aboard. First off I have to give you kudos for breastfeeding. I just had my son and breastfed for all of 10 days. My headaches came back full force and I called my doctor about the imitrex passing through the breastmilk. The doctor said it was ok to take but in low doses. I didn't even want to chance it so I stopped. I do agree with other girls here, 02 is the only thing that I would trust. Get to a neurologist. Congratulations on your baby. Hang in there.
