Title: Got a question on Keppra Post by BarbaraD on Mar 20th, 2006, 7:50pm Has anyone had any experience with keppra? My neuro gave me some samples and told me to try it. Said he's been having some success with CH on it. Has nayone tried it. He said to go ahead and take it with the topamax and if it kicks it (said I would know in about a week or so) that I can get off the topamax (wouldn't that be great). I think this is one I haven't tried. Any info would be appreciated... Hugs BD Sorry 'bout that -- got the wrong drug ... he gave me a bunch of samples and I pulled out the wrong box - tells ya'll how much I know about drugs.... |

Title: Re: Got a question on Lexapro Post by Redd715 on Mar 20th, 2006, 8:01pm It is of the anti-depressant family of drugs, and I was scripted it early after DX and it did nothing for the CH nor the depression that came with it. I was not on Topomax at the time, so not sure what if anything might help you with. There is some differing opinions as to the use of anti depressants with CH but you never know. It could be a good med for "you". Best I can do. Pegg |

Title: Re: Got a question on Keppra Post by BarbaraD on Mar 20th, 2006, 8:20pm Thanks Redd -- it was Keppra that's supposed to help the CH -- the Lepapro is an antidepressant - I remember him telling me that.... Good grief... I gotta get this stuff straight.... He gave me some samples of sleeping pills too cause he knows I don't take them either... (just in case I need them...) I'm writing on the boxes now what they're for... Told you guys I put post-it notes on everything..... :D Seriously does anyone know anything about Keppra??? Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Got a question on Keppra Post by thebbz on Mar 20th, 2006, 10:27pm I tried to use Keppra as a prevent in 2003. I ramped up on it during a pred taper. Made my brains crawl and cost me 2 weeks of work. After that was the dopomax. Same result. bastard demon. Hope it works for you. This was scripted by the neuro and not a GP. Didn't make it work any better. all the best jb |

Title: Re: Got a question on Keppra Post by E-Double on Mar 21st, 2006, 3:46pm I have only heard of horror stories..... Literally called the nightmare drug! I know Unsolved and Lionosund for instance had nightmarish experiences with it. E |

Title: Re: Got a question on Keppra Post by BarbaraD on Mar 21st, 2006, 7:21pm So far not good. Give it another try tonight -- Topamax was mild compared to this... never had any side effects with it, but feel like I've been put thru the ringer with this stuff right now. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Got a question on Keppra Post by unsolved1 on Mar 21st, 2006, 9:12pm Yes, Keppra gave me psychotic nightmares for days. Everytime I fell asleep it happen in about 15 minutes. I eventually stayed awake (because of the fear) for 7 straight days to endure less nightmares and hits. I ended up in the hospital for several days ! I'll never touch that stuff again. Hope you find it works better for you (and that you don't get the nightmares! ) UNsolved |

Yup, he's right. The side effects were awful and because it was an anticonvulsant I was limited in what other meds I could take with it. Other than my neuro, not too many docs knew much about it and were reluctant to give me scripts for simple everyday colds and sickness. It took me awhile to adjust to it. At first I thought it was helping, then it casued me to be severely depressed dangerously quick when the dose was increased and made my dreams more intense. I didn't feel right at all on it. I hope it helps you...but don't wait out too long for side effects to improve. |

Title: Re: Got a question on Keppra Post by NotH20 on Mar 22nd, 2006, 9:15am I took Keppra a few years ago along with Dopomax....not sure which one worked or whether it was a combination of both. It's my understanding that you can increase the dosage on Keppra more rapidly than most other meds. Also, it's "supposed" to be a kinder medication to our bodies with fewer side effects. Good luck Barbara...... Mia |

Title: Re: Got a question on Keppra Post by BarbaraD on Mar 22nd, 2006, 10:30pm I'm off the Keppra -- Two days of barley being able to lift my legs to walk is enough -- aggitated, barking at the dog, and you don't even want to know how I acted in the grocery store... I feel like I've been smoking pot and not having much fun with it.. (the best I can remember of my younger days). I can barely stay awake. I never had these side effects with topamax, so I think I'll just stick with it (it's been working pretty well since 99 - why stop a good thing). Tried Zonogram a few years back with about the same results as Keppra. Guess my old bones just don't like change. But I really can't handle this. Hope I'm back to my old bitchy self tomorrow without the hangover... Nite nite kids... Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Got a question on Keppra Post by BarbaraD on Mar 23rd, 2006, 6:48am I feel almost human this morning -- no keppra last night. Guess that's another med I can't take. Oh well - it was a good thought.... but no cigar.... Thanks for the support thru it... Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Got a question on Keppra Post by sailpappy on Mar 28th, 2006, 12:09am ::) Hello BarbaraD, Keppra has commonly been prescribed to patients with serious Headache problems, the fact that it is primarilly used as an anticonvulsant or antiseizure lends some credance to the thoughts that Clusterheadaches mimic seizure activity in many of us. I have tried Keppra in the past with little or no affectiveness, the side affects vary in a wide range from person to person. Personally this medication made me very light headed and brought me to the verge of passing out much like low blood pressure does. After several attempts and no favorable results, My Neurologist discontinued usage of Keppra. As with any new medication, check the insert for possible side affects and be cautious until you know the side affects for you! Having a PDR or any good source for checking the known affects of this or any medication is paramount! I like HealthSquare.com myself :o Pappy |

Title: Re: Got a question on Keppra Post by BarbaraD on Mar 28th, 2006, 5:45am Hey Pappy, Good to hear from you. I quit taking it after two days. It just didn't agree with me. I felt like I'd been run over by a Mac Truck. I think I had every side effect in the packet. I'm in a high cycle right now and living on Red Bull and coffee with cafergot thrown in when I have to. Hope things are going well with you. Hugs BD |
