Title: Possible Cluster headache - drooping eyelid Post by Katiemoose on Mar 20th, 2006, 3:00pm I have just been diagnosed as possibly having Cluster Headaches, however the neurologist had me see an opthamologist to confirm it was not Glaucoma. It was not. My GP thinks it is migraine. My question, I have not had headaches for several months, but everyday I have a swollen eyelid. Just under the eyebrow it droops and swells affecting the eyelid. Sometimes there is a bit of ache. Nothing bad. When I had the attacks, my left eye swelled and my forehead and to the top of my head hurt. I would put ice on the eye, and take Advil. It always started around 4 a.m...and ended around noon. Again, I only have the swelling eye now each day. Does this sound like cluster headaches?? Does anyone else have this type of sympton alone? |

Spend a few moments with the Cluster Quiz link to the left. You'll probably see that some of your symptoms are atypical. Particularly the 8 hour nature of your headache. And your description of anything regarding CH as "nothing bad" would point another direction. But, take the quiz and seriously answer your symptoms and you'll get a good feel. Good luck and pain free days ahead for you. Scott |

Title: Re: Possible Cluster headache - drooping eyelid Post by Katiemoose on Mar 20th, 2006, 3:13pm Thank you Scott. It is truly frustrating when the specialists and doctors truly don't know. I am shocked at the stories about cluster headaches and how bad they can get. I did the quiz, and I am half and half of yes or no! I have had an MRI, and sinus xrays, both ok. I have great compassion and sympathy for those who suffer from this horrible medical problem. I wonder if they are horrendous from the beginning, or if they graduate to bad. Maybe I had a small case of it the first time. I guess time will tell. Thank you again for responding. |

Title: Re: Possible Cluster headache - drooping eyelid Post by seasonalboomer on Mar 20th, 2006, 3:23pm It is not uncommon to have trouble getting a clear diagnosis. We are not physicians here either. But, the length of your headache (8 hours) is indicative of something other than cluster. (Others feel free to agree or disagree). You say that you're about half and half on the quiz. Which of the questions don't you correspond with? THat may help some of our other knowledgable community members point you toward something to take back to your neuro. We are really here to help anyone who comes -- but only up to our knowledge. Also, not trying to "keep you out of the club" -- just don't like anyone to have to have these things as it might be something else that is far more treatable. Scott |

Title: Re: Possible Cluster headache - drooping eyelid Post by nani on Mar 20th, 2006, 3:28pm Having learned this from a long and unpleasant thread... a longer than normal duration does not rule out CH. Welcome, Katie. Something that may help the dr diagnose you is to start keeping a headache diary. Record the time of day, severity and location of the HA, and the duration. pain free wishes, nani |

Title: Re: Possible Cluster headache - drooping eyelid Post by BarbaraD on Mar 20th, 2006, 8:32pm During this 8 hour duration do you have any PF breaks -- reason I ask is -- mine used to seem like they lasted that long, but it was one hitting right after another, but there were short breaks in between (not long breaks, but some break). A diary is a good thing.... Hugs BD |
