Title: sinus infection following cycle? Post by rapunzel on Mar 19th, 2006, 7:08am Has anyone ever developed a sinus infection during or following a ch cycle? I am not sure if that is what happened with me however my episodes have changed. Usually, when I get a ch, they come on quick, of course, go thru all the stages of agony and then leave. The pain is always left sided, left temple, left eye, left nostril, left maxilla, etc etc...they last a set period ranging from fifteen minutes to forty five, then go away- However, now- still left sided, still sudden and still feel like a nail gun to the eye, but instead of my temple it is also my ear, straight down the center of my head-like the top of my head, and the entire sinus area: entire left eye- above the eyebrow down to my left cheekbone. It is excruitating, definitely, but it doesnt go away. it lessens in intensity but lasts much much longer, and stays so painful for hours. It cycles also- like several episodes in a row. After the pain finally subsides, if I even touch around my eye, I can bring on excrutiating pain. I actually thought I had fractured the bone somehow (during thrashing) but my head feels stuffed in that area and my vision is blurry on that side. Last night was so awful, I am almost embarrassed to face my husband this morning. I eventually shut myself into the bathroom and rolled around on the floor in there for awhile- begging to either just die or have it end. Am wondering if this is what it is like to have ch episodes and a sinus infection at same time. Right now, I feel very normal. Wouldn't even know that seven hours ago I was begging to die. I will put a call in to the neuro on Monday, for appt. Then I can ask for oxygen, different drug besides depakote, topamax, imitrex pills (which does nothing for me, by the way). I stopped the darvocet, and am still taking 12mg of melatonin. |

Title: Re: sinus infection following cycle? Post by E-Double on Mar 19th, 2006, 8:21am The irony is when many of us spend decades getting treated for sinus infections when it is really CH that when a sinus infection really does hit some (me) have a tendency to chalk it up to Clusters. This may happen especially to chronics. Go figure |

Title: Re: sinus infection following cycle? Post by rapunzel on Mar 19th, 2006, 8:26am to have both happen at the same time seems to be so cruel and unfair. It feels like the cluster gets stuck in the sinus and just bangs around in there for hours. now, to say that to anyone who has not experienced ch -well, they just dont get it. :( |

Title: Re: sinus infection following cycle? Post by kcopelin on Mar 19th, 2006, 9:54am Yep. Had both at the same time and it definitely kicked it up a notch. Hang in there. At lest the sinus infection can be treated, I just believe its a bit more difficult because nasal stuffiness on the cluster side is part of the syndrome. I tried something that could help-not a cure or anything. Those nasal strip things that you put on your nose-they are really sticky and they pull the sinus passages open a bit. I found they helped when I was congested-but if you have tender skin on yiur nose they hurt when you take them off. It just helps the sinus congestion a bit. Have you tried any antihistamine at night with the melatonin? PFDAN kathy |
