I have found that I get these Silent Clusters very often! Multiple times a day just like CH. I dont have allergies when I am getting slammed by these I might as well. Anybody else get these alot and do you do anything about it? When I really cant breath I use some nasal spray.

I get the silent attacks frequently as well and just wait for them to pass. Sometimes I use excersise if they last.

By the way the silent attacks are the only time I break into a sweat, not often with the full on hits.

I prettty much just muddle through it as well. Today has sucked. I guess that I am stressing too over finals this week! UHG!!!

Those of us who get them know exactly what you're talking about. Those who don't get them think we're mad.

Like you I just muddle through them and hope they stay silent.

This subject has resulted in several debates on this board.

I'm one of the people who's thought of as "mad", but I'll take the silent hits over the painful ones anyday.

Hey dont get me wrong If given a choice its the Silent ones all the way. They are just another delightful part of this elite club to which we all belong!

I have been experienceing a "suspicious" type of insomnia which may be cluster related. I'm not ready to make the connection for certain, but the cyclical nature of these episodes (7-10 nights in a row every month or two), and the fact that I awaken like clockwork five hours after going to sleep is pretty curious. The next morning often includes a low grade hit or shadow. Maybe it's just a cycle trying to ramp up. We'll see. [smiley=huh.gif]

I had a strange thing happen from aug 2004 until sept 2005...and was usually hit with low level at 6:30 am and at 10:30 pm....
In Januaray 05 I started waking at 1am and at 3:30 ish.
There was no pain, no sudden noises, nothing, except the stuffy nostril and a swollen eye that teared up.
I could just roll over and go right back to sleep.

Sometimes it would happen at noon, too....

but it only lasted a few months, and so even though
I journalled it, it disappeared by may...so no problem.

I too, like the silent attacks, no pain...yeee haaaaw!

I had read about phantom attacks before,
and there is still hope that we can switch back and forth
between pain and no pain atacks...just as some times
this beast chooses to hit right or left sides, it can do
some strange kind of shifting, just to keep us on our toes.

Strange? Yes.
Bothersoome? No

Take the good with the bad and live while you can.

Well at first before I knew what it was I thought that I had some allergies. I went to my dovtor and we had the whole allergy panel done and nothing zip nanda. It was then that Dr. Sewell told me what he thought is was and I paid closer attention to them and I had to agree. I can live it, its not big deal If I can live with CH I can deal with these but I do find them somewhat bothersome from time to time. I wear CPAP and when I get hit at night and my nose stuffs up I know it and have to do something about it or else the CPAP wont work.

Sorry, I'm new here. Can someone describe a "silent" one. Adam sometimes gets what he calls a "normal" headache. Is this it?

Louise - When I experienced my first one I wasn't aware of what was happening. It felt just like the beginning of an attack, i.e., the pressure started initially at the base of the neck then radiated to my CH affected side, nose started blocking, all the autonomic symptoms but NO pain. In ten minutes the event/silent attack subsided.

A fine gentleman explained it like this to me: "the hypothalamus decided to begin a cluster event which includes many physiological changes. Vascular changes & neurological changes. Each one setting off the next link in the chain of events that eventually leads to the peak pain level and then the backtracking as it fades away and ends. So..the first set of changes were triggered and moving towards their goals when they obviously ran into a roadblock. One of the links just didn't want to come out and play anymore. The "beast" backtracked from there and crawled back into it's hole."

That explanation helped me understand what I was experiencing.
