Title: Not getting my hopes up Post by ScottEinDC on Jan 18th, 2006, 2:58pm This morning a shadow started creeping in. Since my insurance time frame for my prescription is running low I thought I would try something else. I took a "Goody's Extra Strength Headache Powder" with a giant glass of water. No less than five minutes later...and still five hours later, nothing! Coincidence? I hope not...but I'm also not counting my chickens. Anyone else try this? |

Title: Re: Not getting my hopes up Post by BarbaraD on Jan 19th, 2006, 5:15am The powders (I use Excedrin ES) will kill a shadow, but be CAREFUL - they will also cause rebounds if you use them too frequently. Coffee will work most of the time for me. And of course O2. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Not getting my hopes up Post by ScottEinDC on Jan 19th, 2006, 8:18am Yesterday was very interesting. I had the shadow come on three times. 90% of the time my shadows become full CH hits. Not yesterday. The first was in the morning (10a) and I knocked it out with the headache powders. The second was in the evening (7p), knocked that one out with the powders. The third came around 9pm and I felt that it wasn't smart to try a third powder, so at that point, I used my Maxalt as prescribed and that worked. So, essentially a pain free day....minus the shadows. :-/ |

Title: Re: Not getting my hopes up Post by ScottEinDC on Jan 19th, 2006, 11:23am upnover: this is one cycle for the past three months now! Ahhhhhhh. Zwibbs/Scott: I have a feeling I might need to agree with Barbara's statement earlier...careful for the rebounds. I've already been hit three times today and it isn't even noon!! A new record....Maybe I've pissed our friend off by not letting him do his business yesterday that he's going to totally eff my day up! |

Title: Re: Not getting my hopes up Post by RichardN on Jan 19th, 2006, 12:16pm When my wife found this site 2/02, had done the MRI, CTs, doc first prescribed Vioxx, then Atenelol in increasing doses . . . didn't help. I was at that time having 6-8 attacks a day and was taking 8-10 Goodies powders a day, logic being that in powder form it would get into my system faster, so, when I felt another coming, down the Goddies and start the dance til the "whoosh" and gone . .. . usually within 20 minutes. Then of course I found you guys and learned that most CH attacks are in the 20 min range and will go on their own . . . . . mostly I was just eating up my stomach. If it works for you . . . . go for it. Since oxygen entered my life, I haven't taken a powder. Be Safe, PFDANs Richard |

Title: Re: Not getting my hopes up Post by MJ on Jan 19th, 2006, 12:38pm Richard Most CH attacks are in the 45 - 90 minute range. sometimes longer. For me average 1-2 hours. See http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/cluster-headache/DS00487/DSECTION=2 |
