Title: Chronic to episodic question Post by taraann on Jan 6th, 2006, 10:41am For a couple months now I have had an easier time with my ch. Been med free nothing to explain the change. Less hits, most bad hits contained in a 1-2 week period. Then mainly shadows and low kip for a few weeks ect. Before I was getting hit aLOT and high kip usually. No timing them really, just a couple of the bad ones I could count on hitting me during certain times of the night. Now I mostly get shadows and low kips for those few weeks then that 1-2week medium to sometimes high kip period, then back to the shadows and low ones for a few weeks............ Hope that made sense....but my question is that indicitive of changing from chronic to episodic? Or am I doing a false hope thing.......yeah I know enjoy the break regardless and I am but I am still hoping maybe I will be "normal" again someday ;;D |

Not sure about chronic to episodic but I can guarantee you this after 25 years. The one consistent thing about this beast is its ability to be inconsistent! Here's to hoping you go episodic and get one of those 18 month reprieves like i just finished.....it's truly the closest thing to heaven on earth! guiseppi |

It was strange and it literally came out of nowhere. I thought cycle was finally finished after 20 months. I decided to detox. It's a slow process but overall I feel better. The hits are coming back violently YET not as long in duration. Just picked up some more tanks. Gotta be ready. I still don't get this damn disorder but the one thing I do know is that........ No one is Normal ;) |

Title: Re: Chronic to episodic question Post by MJ on Jan 6th, 2006, 11:42am Taraann I had 2 cycles that lasted chronically, one for 3 years and a second for allmost the same. Neither had let up periods it was daily 8-12 hits Both extended cycles just up and quit one day same as any other for me. I really believe the departure of the last one was due to stopping all meds. It may be a good time to test that theory if you are taking meds try weaning off of them a bit.. Many chronics report cycles within the cycles like you are seeing. Other episodics go away like yours slow but sure. How long have you been chronic? Keep up the hope and I hope for you as well. pain free days are coming. MJ |

With the exception of a 2 week stretch in July, 2005 was the best remission I've had in many many years and still going strong. I've been long overdue for a severe beatdown but so far nothing :o --- Steve |

Hope you get another long reprieve very very soon guiseppi. I started out episodic, was that way for a few years (I think [smiley=huh.gif] ) and have been chronic for almost 2 yrs (I think [smiley=huh.gif] ) or is it 3? Damn my memory is very very shitty. Better since been off the meds but still shitty. All in all I am very very happy with how my head has been treating me (((knock on wood))) this is an incredible improvement. I tried almost anything and everything for years...esp my first year chronic. Many lovely stays in the hospital for DHE, nerve blocks, and all those lovely things. I haven't really done any meds in over a year. Well I really hope I haven't jinxed myself too much today. ;) I am enjoying this pain reduced period but at the same time dreading it coming to an end and also hoping for it to switch to pf (dreaming probably). I'm staying with my mother in law and her fiance' right now cause we just moved back to NH from WV and I'm nervous of getting a bad hit in front of them. |

Well I'm there now and still having episodes. Do "they" (the experts) no longer predict a reprive from CHs as we get older? Dave |

Title: Re: Chronic to episodic question Post by yikes-another-one on Jan 7th, 2006, 5:21pm age is just a number, and since they have not really figured out cause or cure...it continues to play havoc with predicting the monster's behavior. I hope longer breaks do arrive, but you know not to hold your breath... that will cause the oxygen level to drop welcoming another bad one, right? all we can do is maintain and proceed. I wish we had better news... but you know doctors are scientists. they use what "seemed" to happen in the past to "Predict" future events....and that leads us no where fast. after all, you cannot play the stock market by what it has done in the past 10 years or evne the past 100 years. Each new day brings it's own information to change things.... same thing withthis.... They did say that it should drop down in your 50's but they also said more men than women get these blasted things...so I shouldn't be suffering from anything but migraines....wink.
