I just received my first o2 tank. WOW, it's huge! About 4 feet tall and maybe 10 inches wide. Looks like a scud missle in my puter room. At least they gave me 50 feet of tube so I can watch tv from my living room. Too big to move for sure.

Anyway, they first brought me a plain mask, then they brought me another mask that has a bag attached to the front, and then they brought me just the nose breather thing like in the hospitals , it's not a mask.

My neuro doc has put the prescription FLOW number at 8 which is a lot I'm told.

any suggestions about which mask or nose thing is best?

Don't use o2 myself (going to try it again though)but from what I read the flow should be at 15.

Hi Geoff & welcome.

The mask with the bag is a non rebreather mask; the next best thing to a cluster mask, that is the one to use.
If you got an adjustable flow regulator with the equipment you would be best starting off with 10 litres / minute & adjust it up or down from there.

By the description of the bottle it sounds like what we call an E bottle here in OZ that holds 4100 litres.

Have a look at the link at the bottom of my post, it’s a link to Mr. Happy’s site & shows some oxy gear there, admittedly it’s Aussie but will give you an idea.

The one with the bag is probably a non-rebreateher, and is the one most of us will find most effective. You adjust the flow so that the oxygen leaks constantly into the bag fast enough to fill it before you next breath. For me, that is about 8. If you are sucking the bag dry, turn it up a notch. If the flow rate is too high, it will simply fill the bag and leak out the excess. Pretty simple. Cut off the elastic bands.

Other than that, the common theme seems to be start NOW at the first signs of the hit, keep it up 5 minutes or so after the pain is gone. If it doesn't work in 20 minutes, it probably ain't gonna work at all. Some hits get through.

The other mask might be marginally useful, the nose pokers probably not at all. When I've got a good hit going, my nose is running too fast anyway.

The clustermasx is nice, and reasonably priced.

The non-rebreather with the bag will do. Cut the string first. Then plug the butterfly...the round holes on the front with tape.,,one will have a flat rubber disk leave it..it will close when you inhale and open when you exhale....they leave the other one open...thats the one you tape shut. You need 100% 02 and that will do it with the non-rebreather. Get a clustermasx.
12 to 15lpm for 15 to 20 min. Hit it quick right at onset.

All good advice. You'll need to figure out what the right flow/time for you is.

My first regulator went up only to 8 LPM, and it took 14-16 minutes to abort the headache. I then got a new reg, and at 12 LPM it takes about 8 minutes. Don't know about you, but aborting a CH 6-8 minutes quicker makes a HUGE difference.

I own a clustermasx and it's the best around. Well worth the few $$ to get one.

I'm also getting an O2 Rx and emailed to the link on the clustermasx site yesterday for some information re. ordering one but have not heard back. Is that the right place to go for information and ordering?

yes, Ben will answer you email back shortly. He has been having some trouble with the site but as soon as he gets it straight orders can be placed again.
