Title: Yet Another Newbie
Post by icephoto on May 19th, 2007, 11:11pm
Greetings all.  I'm a 30-something recently diagnosed episodic CH sufferer, though I've been dealing with them for about the last 10 years without a label to attach to it.

This time I'd finally had it.  I was day 7 into an event that included
-- being late for work twice because the best sleep I had gotten that night was between 60 minutes before the alarms (yes alarms) went off and 15 minutes after I had disabled them in my sleep
-- missing deadlines at work because I couldn't concentrate and keep my, uh, stuff together
-- basically being about as sharp as a bowling ball in a profession where people could die if I don't get it right
-- and being a (use your favorite expletive) to my spouse because the combination of my pain and fatigue turned me from the normal loving man that I am into a miserable person to live with again.

Enough was enough.  Doc attached a label to it and respected my wishes to get me started on meds that will be minimally disruptive to my alertness.  Dad (the pharmacist) confirmed that the Doc had gotten the med choice correct and urged me to get smart.  So here I am...

Now I'm trying to learn as much as I can to try to keep them away and respond to them when they do show up.  So I'm here to learn and I assume eventually to help others once I figure out what I need to do.

Thanks!

Congrats on getting the diagnosis, that's a big part of the battle. Next step is to get oxygen!!!! First line abortive for many with almost no side effects, what you need to know.

You must use a non re breather mask, one that allows no outside air in, just pure oxygen. A regulatorthat allows up to 15 LPM air flow. And you need to start it at the first sign of a headache. I keep an e-tank by my bed when I'm in cycle so it's only seconds away from me! Foe me it'll abort an attack within ab out 8 minutes.

Welcome to the nut house, start reading like a madman, I hope you find relief soon!
