Title: Its official, Diagnosed today
Post by waryrpoet on May 9th, 2007, 11:17pm
Hey all. Well I finally got in to the Neurologist today and he said yep that it sounds like Cluster Headaches. I have to thank all of you though. Due to all the great info you guys shared I went in their with alot of information for the Doc which helped him out alot with the diagnosis. The headache log was especially helpfull. So the doc was good enough to give me the Imatrex injections to try, and some zomig nasal spray for abortives and for also gave me what he referred to as a blast of prenezone to try and break up the Cluster cycle.  I do have a question. Has anyone had it where they have had a "break" in your cycle? I was having headaches for about 3 1/2 weeks solid and then nothing for like a week only to be reslammed with more.
Ok guys well thanks again and I look forward to talking to you all more. I do have to say, although it sucks to have this, it is better knowing for sure now.

~~Dave

Hi Dave!

Sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with our terrible condition..

but I am happy to hear that your Doctor gave you what you need, I am sure your cycle will be over soon.

I also get a little break here and there by the end of my cycle, that is the clue that tells me the beast starts to going to sleep again..

Hang in there, use your abortives and you will be pain free in no time!

Yes its not uncommon at all to get a break - you can't really think you're out of cycle ever until you've gone 4 weeks without a hit just to be certain.

With the Zomig and the Imi - you do know you shouldn't take both within 24 hours of each other don't you? I just wanted to make sure you had been given the proper warnings.

Has he given you anything such as verapamil to take along with the pred?

Prednisone will block hits while you're taking it but there is a high likelihood they will come back when you stop the course if you haven't been tapering up on a preventative med in the meantime. They are intended as covering fire while the real big guns get into firing position!

If he hasn't given you anything other than the meds you've listed please, please, please give him a ring tomorrow and ask about it

Hope this helps
Hlen

You haven't mentioned oxygen yet. A great abortive for many with none of the unpleasant side effects found in other abortives. 02 will abort a headache for me in less then 10 minutes. You trip over E-tanks anytime you visit my home, they're my little green security blankets.

Read the info on the left, key points:

Needs to be at a high flow rate, up to 15 LPM...docs don't like that and will argue it's too high...

You need a non re breather oxygen that allows you to breathe only pure oxygen.

As with any other treatemnt there's a chance it won't work for you but a lot of people on the board have had success using it as their first line abortive. Welcome to the insane asylum!!!

hehehe thanks guys. yes I am using O2 as well. I'll definately have to check with the doc about the verapamil, and yes I do know not to take the trex injection and the nasal sparay at the same time. Thanks for the welcome again. You all rock!!

Hi Dave

A few years ago now I had a pretty standard right side cycle. It went away for a week and a half, then came back for a 6 week left side cycle. Left side is very rare for me. The last time before that was also a change of sides, but with no break (about 25 years ago)

Pain free wishes

Mike
