Title: Started cycle over weekend
Post by ApacheRose on Mar 21st, 2007, 1:22pm
After 5 years in remission, I started a cycle over the weekend.  As everyone knows the pain and depression that comes with these, I won't get into all of the details... but after Imitrex injections and O2 at home I went to ER for DHE injection which always seems to help....For now.

I've had some smaller attacks over the last few days, maybe 3 or 4's but nothing that has sent me over the edge.  My neurologist has put me on Decadron so we'll see how this works out.

Since I'm pain free now, a little bit about myself.  I'm a mother to 3 children; Ellie (4), Aaron (2.5) and Max (1).  I know...enough to give me headaches alone.  I'm married to a wonderful guy who is truly trying to get the whole "it's just not a regular pop a tylenol" headache thing.  It's a work in progress...

I was diagnosed with cluster headaches 5 years ago and had a 2 week cycle and fortunately never had another until this weekend.  In January, I was diagnosed with Miagraines and am currently being treated by a great Neurologist for both cluster and migraines.  200 mg Topamax for prev.,  Imitrex 6mg for abor., O2,...and have tried a slew of others. (depakote, elavil, maxalt, stadol, fiorcet)

Look forward to talking to you all and apologies in advance for my lunacies during my evil, evil spells.

cheers,
ApacheRose

I'm sorry you have to be here, but this IS the best place to be!

Feel free to question, vent, cry, and scream.  We all have been there.

But, be warned, virtually everyone here (except myself, of course) is NUTS!!   [smiley=laugh.gif]

So settle in, read, read, read.  There is a ton of good info here. (Plus a lot of silliness, too)

Welcome aboard!

Chuck

Hello and welcome,

Sorry to hear you are starting another cycle after such a nice long break, but take heart, this too will soon pass and you will have many many more years painfree.

My husband has both migraines and clusters and that made it just a bit harder to deal with. Do you get migraines during your cluster cycle ?

Hope the meds work well for you. Painfree wishes and hugs to your little ones too.

Annette

good luck and hopefully your cycle wont last long.  come here for  support, when things are really low, and you have that feeling that nobody around you can understand what youre going through.  we all can understand, and we all know that its not "all in your head" and that youre not makinga mountain out of a molehill.  we understand your pain, depression and frustration.  sometimes that helps more that anything. ;) ;)

Welcome, ApacheRose!

Sorry you are having a rough time. I get migraines and clusters as well.I'm a mom of three too.. you'd think there wouldn't be enough spare time for our heads to hurt, but they do!

Feel free to ask any questions and know that you have our support!

Be well and Pain Free!

Hello,

Sorry you started your latest episode.  I am just finishing the tail end of mine.  I also took 200 of Topomax during my last cycle, and it really does lessen the number of attacks as well as lessen their severity.  It also has a few side effects.  My neurologist warned me about the tingling hands and feet (called paresthesias).  He told me that it in part had to do with calcium changes in your body.  He recommended that I take several Tums each day throughout the day and that this might help a little.  Anyway, if you do get the tingling in your hands, its worth a try and can't hurt anything.  Best of luck to you and here's wishing you a really short cycle.

Steve

Hello Apache! from a fellow Pittsburghian. Ever hear of Sharpsburg? My family is in PGH, I have been away for 19 years. I visit once or twice a year. Considering moving back due to the great health care system.

Your story is similar to mine. I had a 4 week stint in 1993 and it did not reappear until 2003. Only recently, Saturday to be exact, did I understand what is wrong with me. No preventives, no abortives. All the wrong medications which I would quit taking because they did not work and made me feel funny/sick. Only through this forum have I learned what to do and what not to do. I still have a lot of learning to do. I am a newbie :)

I hope your situation gets better and you never see the illness again. If you do stick around, perhaps I can make a new friend? Most of my family lives in Allison Park, Monroeville or lil ol' Sharpsburg? Some are in the Butler area.
