Title: Re: New to this site... Post by peacestock on Jan 10th, 2007, 5:42pm Hi Mike, I am relatively new here as well. I have had CHs for a long time as well. I have found a wealth of information on this site and can't stress enough how important it is to read all the stuff you can. The postings are good as well as they deal with people's experiences with CH. Sorry you have to be here, but at least you are not alone. Peacestock |

Title: Re: New to this site... Post by Mattrf on Jan 11th, 2007, 1:55pm Hay Mike, well most people here will tell you that energy drinks like Red Bull help as a preventative, when you feel a hit coming slam a Red Bull or that type of drink and it can help. O2 is also a favorite of many and if you can’t get a script for it there are other ways to get it just make sure of a high flow regulator and a non rebreather mask. There are lot of others as well, I am sure there will be others to pop in on this thread to give you advice. Check the general page and read up as much as you can there is a lot of information her and a lot of people that will help. Welcome to the board my friend, sorry you had to find us but glad you did. Title: Re: New to this site... Post by miker6565 on Jan 11th, 2007, 3:48pm Thanks Peace.. and Matt.. I read on here about vitamain b2 and magnesium so i went to the market got me a b complex tablets and magnesium, bulk(man that stuff is tangy) started taking at noon so far no cluster headaches,,but i do have days i dont get them ,the true test will be if it works when i feel one coming on, i usually wake up with them but somedays they hit me in the after noon,,days like today its just a dull kinda pain ,,maybe what ive heard referred to as a shadow, makes me leary to drive,,ill try this first ,if it isnt an abortive ill try the red bull,,i think it has b vitamains in it, insurence wont cover the o2 unless i go to a neurologist, which is a wait to get in,,i have had 3 neck surgeries and this started after my first one, I always thoght it was related.......thanks for this site at least i can vent a little....... peace always, mike |

B2 and magnesium, and/or magnesium and calcium isn't an abortive, Mike. It may help as a preventive. It won't stop a headache. Red bull has been helpful for some here as an abortive. As far as the oxygen goes, welding oxygen 12-15 lpm with the proper regulator and a non-rebreather mask are used by many people here. I'll defer to those with more knowledge in this area to give you information on those. Click on the "oxygen info" button on the left side of your screen. Melatonin at 6-12 mg 1/2 hr before bedtime (sometimes with 50mg benadryl) has been helpful for many here, including me. It may reduce the number of nighttime hits that you get. I don't think you're going to see the immediate results from vitamin b2 and magnesium that you seem to be expecting. Best wishes, George |

Title: Re: New to this site... Post by miker6565 on Jan 11th, 2007, 7:12pm Thanks gerorge , thats great to know....im researching the o2 thing,, another member also suggested o2 i'm waiting to see if my buddy calls me back i think he has tanks ,see if i can borrow one to see if it works before i invest,,i had one trying to come on about an hour ago ,,did the coffee( about 3 cups luke warm) thing so far so good, sometimes if i hold my head over the sink and flush my face with water it helps too,,and deep breathing helps,,so the o2 will most likely work, i also do some accupressure on my eyebrow and side of my nose,,which seems to help....seems to be staying away for now......thanks for the info thogh knowlege is power |

Title: Re: New to this site... Post by Bill_G. on Jan 16th, 2007, 5:49pm Hi Neighbor, Yes you are neighbor on a different side of town, but still a local phone call away. I don't know what kind of insurance you have but had I gone through mine it would have cost me about $50. per month. If you have a decent G.P. he can write the script and Delile Ox. down on Marion rd will fill it. You can get a big bottle for home use for $40. desposit and $7. a month rental. To refill the big bottle only costs $24. The only drawback is that you have to buy the regulator which costs about $60. For travel I have an "E" bottle, but those you have to buy the entire set up (bummer) I think it was about $160-$170. One other idea if you get a hit during the day while you are dressed, get your a$$ to the nearest fire house. Even the houses without a squad have O2 bottles and they will take care of you and you get to keep the mask. One less thing that you would have to buy. One last thing, in my experience O.S.U. is the best for CH treatment. Bill P.S. If you want to talk send me your phone # and I can call anytime |
