They have been in remission for a while now and just last month they are back. I haven't used any prescription drugs for these yet. Waiting to get back in to see my doctor... Right now rosemary and lavender oils, ice packs and and an herb you smoke :) is my savior. |

really? Avril, have you tried Oxygen? Strong coffee or energy drinks with caffeine and Taurine in them. Please read this link re: 02 http://www.maplefallswebdesign.com/misc/oxygen/oxygen.htm Rosemary and Lavender oils smell wonderful and have a very relaxing affect to be sure. They do squat for cluster headaches. Please read all the information available here in the links provided. Linda, who wishes you nothing but the best. |

Title: Re: Hello everyone! New here... Post by RichardN on Dec 12th, 2006, 9:52pm Hi Avril & Welcome Please read the "cluster traits", "cluster quiz" & "the Kip scale" . . . links to left. Then let us know how you do and if your symtoms sound like CH (we really hope it's not). The more info you can give re your headaches, the more help we can offer. We are not doctors (well, a few of us are . . . not me), but there is more info on CH and a host of other ha maladys then you'll find anywhere. If you indeed have CH, copy the 02 info available and take to your doc pronto. I can't use triptans (injectables most effective for CHers) . . . so 02 is my only abortive. You will need a preventive . . . there are several . . . Verapamil worked for me. There are OTC meds available that many here use with effect . . . Melatonin helps many with the night hits. Kudzu supplements seem to be working for many. You've lots to read and many questions to ask. After reading the links above, you will better to be able to speak in our "lingo" (like the difference between a Kip 5 & Kip 9) You can't possibly ask a question that hasn't been asked before . . . so fire away. Be Safe, PFDANs Richard |

Title: Re: Hello everyone! New here... Post by Bob_Johnson on Dec 14th, 2006, 7:21am Suggest you start learning about CH for many of us have found that we know more than our docs about i! Here is a link to read and print and take to your doctor. It describes preventive, transitional, abortive and surgical treatments for CH. Written by one of the better headache docs in the U.S. (2002) http://www.brightok.net/~mnjday/chtherapy.pdf ----- Also, MANAGEMENT OF HEADACHE AND HEADACHE MEDICATIONS, 2nd ed. Lawrence D. Robbins, M.D.; pub. by Springer. $59 at Amazon.Com. It covers all types of headache and is primarily focused on medications. While the two chapters on CH total 42-pages, the actual relevant material is longer because of multiple references to material in chapters on migraine, reflecting the overlap in drugs used to treat. I'd suggest reading the chapters on migraine for three reasons: he makes references to CH & medications which are not in the index; there are "clinical pearls" about how to approach the treatment of headache; and, you gain better perspective on the nature of headache, in general, and the complexities of treatment (which need to be considered when we create expectations about what is possible). Finally, women will appreciate & benefit from his running information on hormones/menstrual cycles as they affect headache. Chapter on headache following head trauma, also. Obviously, I'm impressed with Robbins' work (even if the book needs the touch of a good editor!) (Somewhat longer review/content statement at 3/22/00, "Good book....") HEADACHE HELP, Revised edition, 2000; Lawrence Robbins, M.D., Houghton Mifflin, $15. Written for a nonprofessional audience, it contains almost all the material in the preceding volume but it's much easier reading. Highly recommended. |

Title: Re: Hello everyone! New here... Post by Avril on Dec 17th, 2006, 6:40pm Thaanks for the warm welcome. I tried to find the links to take the quizes but i couldnt figure out where it is. As far as alcohol no i don't think it's a trigger...I don't drink every day but i drink enough that i would live with them constantly if that were the case. I do find that i loved zinfindel(red) and that is a trigger. Well any red wine besides pino noir actually. I haven't tried oxygen or too many things anymore. My doctor gave me staydol(sp) and that was horrible. I couldn't even think about my head hurting anymore because i felt like ...i hAD TO THINK ABOUT BREATHING OR I WOULD STOP...Scary!!! |
