Title: Re: Hi, newbie with headaches returning Post by georgej on Nov 11th, 2006, 12:03am Welcome, and pull up a chair... Tell us a bit about yourself if you don't mind, and about your headaches. Have you been diagnosed? Could be some of the people here could give you some thoughts on some things you may not have tried. Read all the links at the left side of your screen, paying particular attention to the "oxygen info" link--oxygen is an extremely effective abortive for many of us. It may be worth a try if you haven't tried it already. Best wishes, George |

Title: Re: Hi, newbie with headaches returning Post by Bill_G. on Nov 11th, 2006, 6:10am Sorry to meet you but, glad you are here. Like they have said help us get to know you by telling us your meds, how long you have dealt with the monster, etc etc. You will find that this group has quite an (collectively) extensive amount of information for the sharing. Best of all it is free information. PFDAN Bill |

Title: Re: Hi, newbie with headaches returning Post by tfef on Nov 11th, 2006, 2:41pm Hi again. Let's see, started getting the headaches in high school, mis-diagnosed as migraines. Apparently 14 year old girls usually don't get clusters. Given lots and lots, and LOTS of Imitrex (pill and nasal spray - I don't do shots well). In college, after so many bad ones and failing 2 classes because class time was the same as headache time, my parents took me to Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago. Diagnosed (correctly this time) with clusters, given anti-seizure meds to break the cycle (at that point the cylce had been 14 weeks straight). That was 4 years ago. I'm now 26, married with a dog. I've had a nice break from the headaches for 4 years, and they are starting up again. Now I live out in So Cal, no headache clinic to be found. Going to start calling doctors on Monday to get in. Currently taking Excedrin Migraine for the pain and to make the stupid headache leave me alone, but it's very quickly starting to not work. I do seek dark and quiet places, but have started to get very antsy with this cycle of headaches, I can't get comfy and start to just move. My husband has been a big help, but at some point, you just need a doctor. Haven't tried the oxygen, but it could be worth a shot - we would like to start trying for a family in 6 months or so. I did start the water thing today, so we'll see how that goes. It's worth a shot. I'm trying to cut out all caffine (with the exception of what's in the Excedrin) which is hard because I love Dr. Pepper! Thanks for the welcome, it's nice to know that there are people that understand the feeling of pain and that your eye is going to pop out at any given second. Hope the info helps! Trish |

Title: Re: Hi, newbie with headaches returning Post by Linda_Howell on Nov 11th, 2006, 3:21pm Shameless plug Mr. BB [smiley=laugh.gif] But she is very close-by in Cathedral City, isn't she? Trish you said you are going to cut out the caffeine, but if you're only doing it because you think that it might help with the headaches..you're wrong. What happens when we have a HA is that the vessels dialate up to 20 times their normal size. What is needed then is a vaso-constrictor which is what the normal meds we use, do. CONSTRICT. Cold packs and caffeine do that. LOTS and LOTS of us always have a strong pot of coffee on all day long. So if this is your only reason...go out and enjoy your Dr. Pepper. Put on a pot of coffee too though, as it has a lot more caffeine. |

Title: Re: Hi, newbie with headaches returning Post by tfef on Nov 12th, 2006, 12:39am Yay for Dr. Pepper then! Thanks. Headache free today. Drank what seems like 50 gallons of water, but took an Excedrin at breakfast, shortly before 'starting time' and the headache didn't come. We'll see how tomorrow goes, but still calling dr's on Monday. Trish |

Hi Trish and welcome, Linda is one of the nicest people here even if after all this time she STILL can't spell it right!! (Love you Luinda but it HAD to be done!) If you can make it to meet with everyone in January I can promise you it will be a life changing experience. Good luck with the doctors tomorrow, in the meantime read what you can and ask as many questions as you want so you can go fully armed to your appointment :) We'll get you sorted I promise Helen |

Title: Re: Hi, newbie with headaches returning Post by Charlotte on Nov 12th, 2006, 9:31am Does a fast walk or some exercises at the first sign help you or make it worse? Also, there are some kudzu threads here, that you can find in the last few pages in the med section or do an onsite search for, using the search button to the lower right of the ch.com logo upper left corner. Charlotte If you can make it to the meet n greet, you won't be sorry. It's an unusual instant bond. |

Title: Re: Hi, newbie with headaches returning Post by kcopelin on Nov 13th, 2006, 4:45pm Trish, Caffeine is our friend. Naps are not. Clusterheads are rare, so if you can get to San Diego, and see a bunch of them in one place, you will not be sorry. (Weirded out, maybe...sorry, NOT) O2 has been a great thing for many of us. I will personally treat you to a Dr. Pepper when we meet in San Diego :) Since I already owe everyone else an energy drink... I think... PM me anytime. PFDAN y'all kathy |

Title: Re: Hi, newbie with headaches returning Post by RichardN on Nov 14th, 2006, 12:24am Hi Trish and Welcome DO GET A SCRIPT FOR OXYGEN! When used correctly, it's possible to abort an attack in minutes. Stay with the water therapy . . . I'm absolutely convinced it's helped me reduce the frequency/intensity of attacks. Be Safe, PFDANs Richard |
