Title: Okay, Now I have some ?
Post by artemis on Nov 10th, 2006, 2:13pm
O2- can you really use too much?
Imitrex-does it really make your headaches last longer?
Do clusterheadaches cause anyone else to get "cranky"?
Been reading alot and it looks like there's no real answers for some stuff.  I was so hoping that maybe you guys knew, oh crap, I don't know, some secret...I don't know, some really amazing way to get rid of this pain...other than the final solution which I have certainly thought about a few times.  No cure, huh.  Not very much hope then.  How are you doing this then?   By this I mean, hanging around here, making jokes and stuff.
So, I think I'm gonna try melatonin, cause it sounds like that might help.  Not gonna go near imitrex.  Maybe taper off the calan and see if this cycle ends....that's pretty scary.

Melatonin may be a godsend!
Get Oxygen
Do not taper without talking to doctor.
Use trex if ya need.
Do what works for you!

Period.........end of sentence ;)

Imitrex-does it really make your headaches last longer? Some people experience longer "cycles". It will shorten an individual attack.
Do clusterheadaches cause anyone else to get "cranky"?Not me but my wife gets cranky if it happens while we're "being romantic".
Been reading alot and it looks like there's no real answers for some stuff.  Correct.
I was so hoping that maybe you guys knew, oh crap, I don't know, some secret...I don't know, some really amazing way to get rid of this pain...other than the final solution which I have certainly thought about a few times.  The final solution won't help. You'll just end up in Hell and still have clusters. No cure, huh.  Correct.
Not very much hope then.  How are you doing this then?   By this I mean, hanging around here, making jokes and stuff.  Ya just have to keep going. Sooner or later the pain will stop. Making humor here helps alot. If you can't laugh at yourself, heck, I'll laugh at you. [smiley=laugh.gif]

Too much oxygen? Not in my opinion. Get it, use it.
Get cranky? You bet, changes my entire personality during the "cluster" period.
There is no cure, but there is hope. Different things work for different people. Oxygen has been a life saver for me, but for someone else it may not work at all. You will find something that works for you.
How do we keep going? After these babies are over, and they will be over, life is beautiful.

Why not the imitrex?  You are talking to a lot of pin cushions on here, me included.  ;;D  Have been through around 50 shots this extended cycle, but I don't blame the trex for that.
Also try some ice packs (frozen peas) during the hits.  Helps me survive the attack.  Others like a warm towel.
You will survive and be able to laugh.

Thank you all for your responses.  Frozen peas-tried that works good.  Really afraid of needles-you guys give yourself shots! I'd pass out! But my neuro prescribed nasal spray.  and I wish the oxygen worked better-for longer.  that would be nice.  Anyone else go for really fast walks?  I find stuffy or too warm rooms trigger as does relaxing.

Really fast walks? When traveling on business and can't take my oxygen, I always pack my jogging gear. If I wake up at 1:00 am with the beast I take him out for a run. Kind of my way of fighting back. I tell it "I'm going to run until either you are gone or I collapse".  I don't know if it is the heavy breathing, the heart thumping or what but I can usually abort the attack. From the time I start running until the beast subsides is 15 ~ 20 minutes.

This is an easy yes....we cant help even making each other cranky...lol [smiley=laugh.gif]

Nope. Not even a decent treatment in my opinion. all we have it seems is always the lesser of two evils.

How are you doing this then?

Because we are clusterheads, we are the toughest people in the world, and we have no choice but to fight and win.
all the best

Needle is absolutely nothing----tiny/short  ::)  You will not feel a thing.  I'd use a rail road spike to get rid of these things.  You might want to investigate Zomig NS--as others including myself have longer P/F times after its use.  The imitrex is good usually for that particular headache only.

Yes they make me cranky! I'm also one who is joining the side that believes imitrex may extend a cycle, but it also never fails to halt the real ass kickers. So while the cycle does go a little longer, I haven't had a 10 in years.

The oxygen is my lifeline, an e-tank at home, in the car and at work. Don't fall asleep with it on, other then that you really can't do yourself harm with it. We have all thought about the easy way out, use all of us if you ever get near there again. Like Bob said, if you laugh at it, it's not winning. Good luck and welcome.
