Title: Hello
Post by chyrl on Oct 17th, 2006, 5:07pm
Just wanted to introduce myself and say how glad I am that I have finally found this sight and to know that there are many more out there just like me.

I am 48 and have suffered with CH for the past 15 years. Although my headaches don't seem to be as severe as some that I have read, nontheless, they are dibilitating. They hit me in the middle of the night, most of the time I am dreaming about them and wake up wanting to rip my head off. Just recently they have progressed into several times a day instead of just once a night. I can't help but wonder what is next.

I just started my most recent "cycle" and wonder just how long this one will last. My boyfriend feels so helpless when one hits...all he can do is sit back and watch my suffer.

It is good to know you all are out there and I look forward to talking with you.

Hi Helen, nice to meet you too  :). I too wish it were not under these circumstances, but, still nice to meet new friends.

As far as meds, I can't remember what was given to me at the onset 15 yrs ago.....the headaches stopped for quite a long time after the first onset. They started up again a couple of years ago and have still been intermiten until last week. Now they are more frequent and more intense. For now 1000 mg ibuprofen seem to be doing the trick but I am afraid that won't work for much longer. I have an appt. w/Dr. next month and will see what is what from there.

Is it common for CH to act this way? In reading it seems my headaches are not as severe as most.

As for my BF, I am printing out whatever info I can find for him to read and try to understand, which is not easy, as you well know, for someone who does not suffer as we do.

Again, nice to meet you and look forward to talking w/you again and meeting more.

You will probably hear this a time or two but try and get your doctor to prescribe you oxygen. There are two tricks to using it. You MUST start the oxygen as soon as you get that "oh sh#@ here it comes feeling" Once the pain sets in the oxygen won't reverse it. The second thing is you must use a non re breather mask or a cluster mask at a high flow, up to 15lpm. This will abort over 90% of my headaches with no side effects.

Welocme to the board, lots of beautiful people here who will do anything to help you, good luck!!!

There are things he can do to help you if you can stand to have someone in the same room.  Some of us cannot.  Some supporters stay just with-in earshot in case they're needed.  See if you can get him to come here.  We'll initiate...uh, I mean educate him.   ;;D

Hi Guiseppi/Linda.....nice to meet you two.....Guiseppi...thanks for the info...I will talk to Dr. about oxygen, I have heard it really works. Maybe it will and I won't dread that "OH S*#*" feeling.
Linda.....it actually helps me, I have recently discovered, for him to sit w* and "talk" me thru it, it also helps for him to gently rub my shoulders, believe it or not. I used to sit and rock and squeeze my hands together until it started to subside. At least he is trying to help. I will get him to join us and give him more insight to us.

Thanks to the both of you and I am very glad to be here and meeting all of you   :D

Thx...Chyrl

...and welcome!

I see that you have beens suffering a while, but there is no mention of how you care for yourself.   Hopefully you have taken the time to read all that you can here, and have picked up some useful tips.

I am so glad you found us, there is no better place to be with this condition.  If you haven't used O2 as suggested above, please give it a try .  It is very helpful to many of us.

As you have already noted, the folks here are a fantastic group, and they truly understand what you are going through.

Hey Chryl,
Like you I am still a newbie around here.  Like has already been said and I just found out this cycle 02 is the best bet going yet.
The one thing that I tried since being here is to print out some supporter comments/letters and give them to  my wife to read, that way she sees that she is not alone in her feelings or emotions.
    Best wishes to be PF
Bill

My wife rarely contributes to the supporters corner, she's still uncomfy with the whole thing, but reading it has helped a lot with her understanding of this thing. Even if your supporter isn't keen on joining in have him peruse the site. Knowing it's not that rare, and it won't kill you!!! can help the supporters, wishing you relief soon.
