Title: Should have said more. Post by dolfan13 on Sep 5th, 2006, 9:33pm I have classic CH but Im lucky so far for the last 15 years they came every 2 or 3 years.I wish I would have kept a diary but it seems lkie it always hits me hard in late summer. Theres times that for months on end I get the shadow symtems as Ive seen it called on here, good way to discribe it.Makes me really mad over the years when doctors use migrain in the same breath.Right now is the longest cycle for me going on 3 weeks. I am also very lucky midrin has worked for me if taken early enough, but then I will get to feeling better go to bed and bam wake up and 15 mins later I thinking lifes not good enough to endure this. But I have a 4 year old and a 4 month old, cant leave them. Doctor wants to switch me to tropomax? I think if an old non evasive drug like midrin works shouldnt I stick with it?Sorry for rambling glad as hell I found this site dont know why didnt look before.Oh cried my eyes out when I went to the childrens topic. |

Title: Re: Should have said more. Post by no-one on Sep 5th, 2006, 11:05pm Welcome, sorry you had to find us. Yes we all feel that way when we read the childrens section. I am not a Dr but if it isn't broke don't fix it. The only reason I can think of trying topomax is as a preventive, to stop them from hitting at all. I don't know many ppl that have had great luck with it but it does work for some. I would get the Dr. to order you some O2. That has a very high success rate as a abortive. you will need a non-rebreather mask and run it at 15 liters. With the O2 you can use it as often as you need, where with the midrin you have a limit on how often you can use it PF wishes b |

Title: Re: Should have said more. Post by Bob_Johnson on Sep 10th, 2006, 2:49pm There are effective preventives which have fewer side effects compared to Top.... Here is a link to read and print and take to your doctor. It describes preventive, transitional, abortive and surgical treatments for CH. Title: Re: Should have said more. Post by kcakebread on Sep 10th, 2006, 4:04pm Topamax, an anticonvulsive, is a popular preventative right now. The manufacturer is currently hawking it pretty aggressively as a migraine preventative. Must be more money in migraines than in epilepsy. I had a frightening experience while on topamax. I had severe word retrieval problems, the headaches did not go away, and when I took Imitrex, I experienced extreme hyperventillation. My husband called the paramedics. kfc |
