Title: New here
Post by emilai333 on Aug 29th, 2006, 2:54pm
I'm really glad I found this place.  See, I started getting really bad headaches about five or six years ago now, as a freshman in high school.  I changed everything that I could, trying to find the cause.  Heck, everyone else I knew could either just take a couple of Excedrin and go take a nap, or something.  Unfortunately, not me.  And the kind of headache I was getting was different than my brother's tension headaches (although I've had a few of those myself...), or my mom's migraines.  Well, you all know why that is.  So after five years of struggling along, I finally got desperate to go to the doctor.  As I had, he immediately concluded that I was not getting migraines.  He went through all his questions, and concluded that I was either getting tension headaches, or cluster headaches.  He gave me a couple of types of medicine and sent me on my way.  Well, at the time I was coming to the end of a batch anyway... the nasties went away!!! (**celebrates**) although I had a couple tension headaches (finals, you know?).  They were laughable.  I mean, seriously.  There was no red hot poker stuck up my nose and out the top of my head; no indescribable pain at my eye... And then the nasties came back.  (**cries :'( **)  Oh, guess what.  the stuff the doctor gave me does not work.  As I discovered on a campout with my scout group. At two am.  and accidentally woke our advisor.  I was understandably grumbly in the morning; and my best friend explained, "Emily gets these migraine things."  which he gets "too."  (I've finally got him convinced that I do NOT get migraines, but he totally doesn't get it.)
On here, though,  I have to admit that compared to some people's stories, I'm pretty lucky.  I remain somewhat able to function somewhat normally.

Hey there,
Im new to this too.  While this is my first bout, with 'Satan' as I call my episodes, I know the pain you speak of.  I started getting them 3 weeks ago and got my butt to the doc last night....you know the rest.   I just got lucky in his diagnosis.  I think this site is great this way we all help each other stuff that those wacky M.D.s would never tell ya.
Scout Group??  Are you a scoutmaster?
Take Care

My "scout group" is a Venture Crew.  It is a division of Boy Scouts of America; but it is co-ed and geared for older kids and young adults, up to 21.  Its a lot of fun, although one of my biggest fears is that I'll get a headache (I'm sure you've noticed I call them "the nasties") about forty foot up a fifty foot cliff.  My advisor figures that once you're that close to the top, you may as well finish the climb, no matter what.  My only hope should such an event ever occur, is that my best friend remember that there is no way on Earth or in Hell that I can finish a climb like that, and feels like convincing my advisor of such.
I suppose that another thing that rather terrifies me is the thought that they seem to get worse.  Five years ago I could (barely) manage to pay attention in class even at the climax... six months ago, at the worst point of my last cluster, I could not string enough thought fragments together to walk across the room and get a drink of water.

Dont worry, adrenaline will keep the nasties away.

Emilai, warm welcome! :)

Perhaps the letter for employees & colleagues could help with your advisor...? I'm glad to hear that you have a best friend who supports you! You'll find plenty of supporters here as well, any time you need us. :)

And perhaps you can find ideas what kind of treatment will help you with nasties. (I call mine the devil/beast.. ;)) Here's lots of info about ch, so read up when you have the time.

I'm glad that you found your way here. But I am so sorry that nasties found you.

Best wishes,
Sanna
