Title: Hey Y'all Clusterhead from Texas just diagnosed
Post by Nick8977 on Aug 29th, 2006, 12:15am
Hey everyone,
Im Nick from Dallas. I am 27 single and just having fun....or trying.   Well, I guess I have some learning to do on this cluster headache thing.  It all started 3 weeks ago.  I was over at my mother's house doing what a good son does....chores lol.  On my short 15 minute drive back to my place a pounding headache started....My LORD it hurt.   I kept thinking it'll pass no sweat.  A few hours later it finally did.  I thought well hope that never happens again felt like Satan was in my head!  But it did and it has everyday for the last 3 weeks at the same approximate time of day (with exception to today).  I swore it was just a bad migrane.  I was taking Excedrin Migrane, BC powder, Advil, Alleve and anything else they sell at Wallgreens. Yesterday I went to the cemetery where my Grandfather (who was my best buddy) is buried and sat there with my head between my legs rocking back and forth until it passed.   Long story short the doctor gave me a thorough check out and came to the "cluster conclusion".   He started me on Predinisone and Imitrex.  I have been fighting and winning my whole life so there is no way I am gonna let this kick my behind.  Just gotta get in the groove!
About me:  I like cars (ferraris), airplanes, World War Two history, animals (dogs), the lake, the DALLAS COWBOYS and too much other stuff to list.
Well drop me a line if you got any tips on living with the pain when it comes.  Cause I sure could use some help.  Look forward to talking to some of you folks.
Take Care-------------_____NICK_______-----------------

Hi Nick,

Welcome  :) You will find everything you need to know on this site. This is the only site that makes me happy. This IS your second family. Take time to read, read, read. Sounds like you are on the right track. Have you tried Oxygen? Red Bull? These are just a couple.

I have been on Prednisone and Verapamil for over 2 weeks and nothing yet. My neuro put me on Lithium and Verapamil today so we wil see. The oxygen used to help me but now it's hit and miss. I tried Red Bull today and it didn't seem to work but I'm not giving up I will try it a few more times. The Imitrex shot is a BEAUTIFUL thing but it can get pricey! Remember everybody is different so different things work on different people.

Hang in there you will get all your answers :D
Best of luck to you,
Sylvia

Welcome, Nick.  Sorry you have to be here.

There are lots of other TX people here.  I'll defer to them.  Meantime,  welcome home.

Sounds like you're on the right track.  Others with more knowledge than I have will likely be posting in response to you soon.

Best wishes,

George

Hey Nick, welcome!

I have started on the natural pathic way to PF days.   I am in the 8th week of a nasty cluster and have been suffering for 15 years.  You have my sympathy.  If you have any question, please let me know.  Harsh narcotics do a number on my system so I have taken to hot showers, coffee (double brewed for some odd reason) and sea salt.

Cheers,
Heather

PS  WWII history eh?  a man after my own heart.  I love WWII history, especially avaition and battle history

Nick--

Definitely hook up with an O2 tank--check out the oxygen info button on the left.
Also, try chugging some strong black coffee at the first onset of a headache.  Hope you get 'em under control.  Starlight

Hi Nick,

warm welcome! :)
I'm so sorry that you have ch, but I am glad that you found your way here.

Here's lots of supporters and information about ch. I do hope that you'll find what kind of treatments helps you with your ch. We're all bit different in that sense (Ice cold red bull helps me).

You mentioned that you're going to try coffee. Some of us have found relief with also caffeine tablets. Let us know what helps you. :)

Best wishes & PF time,
Sanna

Nick-
What Matt said...if you've never met another clusterhead you are going to freak out.  We can finish each others sentences, we know a level of pain that NO ONE ELSE can comprehend, and we're generally very funny, smart, attractive, witty, and talented. ;;D
Or not.
Welcome home, pull up a chair and a clustermasx and make yo self at home...coffee's in the pot, ice in the freezer and O2 right next the burning ciragrette (just kidding)

HAHA thanks for making me feel at home.  Actually when I was in the doc.s office after being diagnosed I text messaged a close friend from childhood "ever hear of cluster headaches?".  Immediately the phone rang.  My friend said he gets them as well.  Small world out of the 2% of the population him and I both get them.  He actually refered me to this site (but he is not a member).  I really feel lucky because he kept getting diagnosed with PINKEYE instead of CH.  Has that happened to anyone else?

Welcome Nick,

I am a supporter for my DH Daniel who has CH, newly diagnosed after being wrongly diagnosed with just about everything else under the sun including Chronic Fatigue Syndrome  ::)

He loves WWWII history also. He has not given up on trying to teach me about it yet ! LOL ! He currently has blurry vision as side effects from Lyrica ( a nerve pain med ) so he is not posting on the Board but when he can I am sure he would like to chat to you to the wee hours about WWII  :) , with 10 cups of strong coffee and the 02 nearby  ;)

We both are also dogs lover, DH used to have 4!  :)

Read read read and read some more. Soon you will probably know more than some neurologist about CH.

Painfree wishes to you.

Annette
