Title: Hello, I'm new! Post by sekaufm on Aug 17th, 2006, 1:22pm hi all, I have been on this site quite a bit and decided I should register. I have been diagnos. with Clusters for 3 years now. Although as a child I remember getting these "ear aches" that were on my left side and my left eye would get blood shot red and my left nostril would drain. Now that I am 30 and have been diagnos. these weren't earaches as a child they were CLUSTERS!!! I went 3 years without an attack (woo hoo) and now the deamon is back. I went to the nero last week (who is the best I have ever seen in my life) and put me on Prednisone and verapamil. Well I have been having an attack for the past 3 nights. Last night was the worst ever! It lasted an hour and a half and I could not get my oxygen to work! Finally it went away. Spoke to the doctor today and I have to start the Prednisone all over (6tablets a aday and decreaseing by1 every other day) and take the verapamil with it. (I swear last week he told me to take the prednisone for 14 days and THEN start the verapamil). I pray this will work and not come back for a few years!! Does anybody know if this will ever go away and what is it from?? |

Title: Re: Hello, I'm new! Post by prcole18 on Aug 17th, 2006, 3:08pm Hi & welcome. Different meds work for different people. you are supposed to take the pred while the Verapamil is kicking in which could take a couple of weeks or so. Most people notice an impovement with the pred pretty quickly after taking it. Generally though you do not want to be on pred for too long, so hopefully the Verap will work for you. As for the headaches going away, they basically come & go when they feel like it. Hope you get pain free soon |

Title: Re: Hello, I'm new! Post by roy21302 on Aug 17th, 2006, 3:37pm Hi to you, sorry we have to meet on this site, Your Doctor has it right, take the Pred and the Verap, the Pred help while the Verap builds up in your system. You mention you have O2 to use, many people here swear by it to abort attacks. As to your fear about it going away, you can only hope that since it is 3 yrs since your last visit from the beast he may go away again for at least as long. By which time you never know some clever person may have found the magic bullit!! Anyhow read around you will find plenty of support here from loads of people all in the same boat-----------------------------------------------------CheersRoy |

Title: Re: Hello, I'm new! Post by Guiseppi on Aug 17th, 2006, 10:27pm I'm in a minority on the board, I use lithium instead of verapamil. If the verap don't work, ask your neuro if he's willing to try the lithium. It's been working for years and is my primary preventative when I'm on cycle. Good luck with the verap and pred taper, I hope it does it for you! Guiseppi |
