Title: Hello Everyone
Post by DavidEH on Aug 16th, 2006, 6:59pm
Just wanted to introduce myself..

My name is Dave, and until recently, I've been in 2 years remission from CH. Until two weeks ago that is.

Everything has started up again, and now I'm just waiting for doctor appointments to get help... Even though I've been battling level 7-10 kippers for the past three days, I haven't gone to the emergency room, and just deal.. It's been taking alot out of me. From my experience, I would rather act "nutty" at home, then wait an hour+ in an emergency room.

I'm just hoping that what happened 2 years ago doesn't happen now (basically lossing everything, taking a leave from college, getting fired, lossing a gf, pharmacist looking at me like a drug junkie on a imatrex fix and then being mis-labeled manic- depressive and hospitilized for a month, to be then "unlabled" and taken off all manic depressive meds, and basically released from their clutches...)

This is my first support group, but you know what?

I thank god that, although I would never wish this on anyone (even enemies), I thank god that others understand and there's a place to go...

Thank you everyone.  Even though I just had "one" a few hours ago, and still feeling the aftershocks, I just wanted to say thank you...

David

Welcome David!

You bet your boots you are at the right place.  You will never have to doubt your sanity again as we are all a bit nuts ;) and you are among family now.

You hang in there, we understand, you are home.[smiley=hug.gif]

Stories could go on and on for the loss of material and love due to or inpart due to CH. Hope it doesn't happen again. Only you can stop that. But help makes it easier.
You need an abort and a prevent, couple that with a plan and proper timing you should not lose everything.
Welcome and be well

Thanks again for all the warm welcomes...

Gives a sense of relief, even though I know I'll be dipping into the proverbial ces pool of pain in less then 24 hours...

Just when things started going good again, whammo.. Damn that little beast... The hardest part is dealing with my family. Seeing that clusters before led to my almost un-doing, they fear that I'll become manic/ depressive again... When I've been great for the last two years, no mental instabilites, no meds, nothing, declared healthy, physically and mentally..

No whammies, no whammies, stop...  errr

It makes sense though, I feel as if, when I get this, I suffer from "shell shock." I mean I bet anyone who is tortured goes through some state of shock..

Since the first bout 2 years ago, I've learned alot, but thought I was cured, then whammo. I am however, a stronger person. Really Need to be, in the week or so it will take to get the proper meds...

Call this a dry run....

And why does it always have to happen when I get a new gf.

I think there's a correlation here..... hahaha

David, there's a lot you can do to minimize the amount of hell you have to go through during this cycle.  I second the request for you to tell us what preventative(s) and abortive(s) you have used in the past to treat your CHs.

There's a wealth of great information to be found here.  Just try not to worry too much.  Your life isn't going to go down the tubes this time.

I was joking about the GF/ CH association...  [smiley=laugh.gif]

It's just ironic that both times I've been hit, I've been in new relationships (which in essence are already a growth period) and its horrible that this has to affect them...

I never would ever blame anyone for this pain or even which it upon them...

Thanks again to everyone who has welcomed me...

In terms of meds, since I'm iffy about what exactly I was prescribed.

I remember the imatrex nasal sprays, I had a bunch of those.

I remember some steroids being prescribed, but other then that, due to what I experienced then it's hard for me to recall... I guess I blocked it all out, and never really kept great records.. I'm also switching neuros, so they will prolly send that info over..

Most of which is my own fault. I only get medical help when its extreme (call it a hatred/fear of docs)...

Usually when my affliction leaves, I go on like nothing happened, but this is changing now (as in my young age, I've been aflicted with cluster headaches, and the gout, and I'm a pretty fit, 26 year old male......) so now I have to understand that I have to work to fight this someway...

2 years remission is pretty good I guess for not taking anything....

Once again thanks everyone, I love this place...

Hi, David.   I'm sorry you're here, but happy that you found us.  This board has more clusterheadache knowledge combined than any doctor on this earth (my opinion only)

In your last post, when you talked about the meds/treatments that you had tried, you said that you couldn't really remember.  As a clusterhead - right now - start yourself a little journal.  Keep track of every CH hit, the time it happened, the pain level it reached, how long it lasted, what you ate, what you drank, what you did - no matter how insiginificant you think it might be.

I, know, this sounds like a bunch of crap, but if you can take this journal to your doc, it will help him/her, but, by keeping this journal, it also will let YOU know about your Ch cycle.  Times of hits, seasonal or not, triggers in food or drink,.  All of these things will help you cope and combat your cycle.  YOU and only you are the best person to learn how to fight this beast and survive.  By keeping track of how he treats you, you are better aware and can be armed to fight him back.

Just my two cents.

Sandy

David, welcome aboard.  We knew you were joking.  Joking is good medicine.  Along with the moral support & information available here, a good dr & a good neurologist, your sense of humor, and endurance.

What Sandy said. Change your way of thinkiong just a little. Doctors can't really run your head ache program cuz as most will freely admit, they don't know much about them.

Get a preventative for when you're on cycle. (The period of time when the beast is back) some use verapamil, depakote, I use lithium. Have him prescribe you a 10 day or so prednisone taper to give you some relief while the meds kick in. Facing these things naked scares the sh&% outta me, they hurt!

Then get an abortive, (something to stop the ones that do get you. ) The imitrex nasals never worked for me and made me barf! I like the injectables more better. And get oxygen prescribed after reading the link on how to use it. Sid  effects are almost nill and for many it stops the beast in its track. keep in touch and good luck.
