Title: Pain Free night!..... Post by prcole18 on Aug 1st, 2006, 4:57am Well nearly, had to have a jab at 12:45am & then nothing till 7:30am this morning, which was a kip 5 & took a Sumatriprtan tablet which killed it in half hour,(trying to stay off the injections, been using up to 4 a day!)) best night ive had in a couple of weeks! May have something to do with starting another Pred taper last night, which I didn't want to do but considering ive been more or less permanantly on them I gathered one more course (seeing the doctor later today) wont hurt. Also thanks to this site & advice from people ive realised I haven't really been treated properly in the last couple of years. My neuro put me on pred as a preventive, but now I realise from what people have said (thanks Helen) & what ive read this should only be used while the other preventive, ie Verapamil is kicking in etc. Well I was never given any other preventive untill 5 day's ago, so ive been more or less permantly on pred, which I understand ain't a good thing. Anyway, back to the doctors this afternoon, where I want him to up the Verap from 2X 120mg a day & hopefully by the time this Pred cousre has finished the Verap will have kicked in! I'll keep you all updated & again Ive learnt more from this site & people on here than any doctor, A big Thankyou!! |

Title: Re: Pain Free night!..... Post by Ladybug314 on Aug 1st, 2006, 9:29am :) :) :) Glad to here you had a P/F night. I have been on Verapamil since last Friday and so far it seems to start kicking in. I went against what the Neuro said after the 3rd day and upped it to 3x's a day which it was to be set to after 3 days of taking it. Yesterday was one of the best days I had since I was diagnosed. Although while you were sleeping I got smacked with a 10'r took Imitrex and of course that cut the topping of the icing off the cake. Please keep and touch and let us know how your doing.. Ida |

Title: Re: Pain Free night!..... Post by sandie99 on Aug 1st, 2006, 10:43am Congrats about the PF time! :) Good luck with the docs. The more you know about ch, meds & treatments, the better. Some docs don't know that much about ch. I hope that yours will know a lot. Best wishes & loads of more PF time, Sanna |

Title: Re: Pain Free night!..... Post by LeLimey on Aug 1st, 2006, 11:56am Good luck! Your doctor shouldn't have a problem with upping the dose but let us know if he does. I can get you a copy of the guidelines for increasing verap and also decreasing it. Don't forget the other golden rule, an ECG at every dose increase! Helen |

Title: Re: Pain Free night!..... Post by prcole18 on Aug 1st, 2006, 12:49pm Thanks for you replies. Just got back from the doctors. Took him a load of stuff i'd printed from here which he was quite impresed with. He's upped my Verap from 240mg to 480mg a day, so hopefully when this course of Pred is finished in 10 days time the Verap will have kicked in & no headaches (hopefully)! Also asked him why my neuro just gave me Pred (2 years ago!) & not another preventive as well & basically he didn't know. Anyway hopefully i've educated him a bit in what is needed in the Preventive side of things. He also gave me another 32 Imigran injections as i'm going away for a week on Sunday & do not want to be caught out, although I do not want to go over the 2 a day limit if I can help it as I know this can cause even more headaches. Good thing is I still haven't had a headache for 10 hours which is heaven compared to the last 2 weeks, long may it continue. Just for the record my current med i'm taking is: Pred 12X5mg for 10 days (currently on 2nd day) Then 6X5mg for 4 days. Verapamil 2X240 a day Magnesium 750mg a day Also drinking loads of water! Hopefully now ive gone 10 hours this cycle may be broken...... fingers, toes & just about everything crossed! Thanks again for everyones advice & info, you'll never know how appreciated it is. Here's to pain free time for everyone. Paul |
