Title: scubadiving
Post by fluff_uk on Jul 23rd, 2006, 6:19am
Hi there.
I am going to Kenya next year for a special anniversary, and the wife and I have started to learn to scuba dive - BUT
on the health questionaire which has to be completed the first question relates to complicated migraines and medication taken.
Are there any CH sufferers out there that scuba dive?
Does anybody know if it is possible to do this activity safely?
Look forward to all your help with this

Hi fluff,
I'll help you with this ONLY if you come back and post photo's after your trip ok?!
There are several ch'ers who scuba dive. I'll start im-ing them in a minute to get them to come an look at this thread for you - what I'm sure they will need to know is are you likely to be in cycle then?

If you need travel insurance and haven't taken any out I can highly recommend www.gotravelinsurance.co.uk Very cheap and will list CH. I've just used them going to Milwaukee.

Hope this helps
Helen

I used to do a lot of scuba diving. Warm water and cold. Lake and Ocean. But, down to only 80'.

I was never bothered by attacks during or after any dive. I think you're safe. Dive safe and have fun.

I've dove on and off cycle. Never seemed to be a trigger for me. I never did deep water dives, (over 100 feet) or repetitive dives in one day. Have a blast, like Lelimey said, pictures are now a requirement!

I was a US Navy and professional diver for 12 years.  I can't think of a reason that you could not dive.  It might hurt if your hit, but nothing life threatening.  Believe me, you'll find your way to the surface, CH or not.  I have actually vomitted successfullly under water at great depth on many occasions without incident.   :)

I used to dive every day for 2 years, and it was no problem. But I never had an attack while diving.

That's nice.....

I had a dive partner once down in Key Largo who vomited at "underwater Jesus" through his regulator. He learned that he shouldn't have went with the bacon, sausage and eggs prior to going out that morning. But the fish sure loved it. And the the sound of all the other divers muffled by the sound of a regulator in their mouth, collectively, "eeeeeeewwwwwwww!"

Never had a problem diving once related to CH.

I can see I have some ship mates here, cool!

I dive as much as I can and have had no problems with ch. And if you ever huck near me while under, you will get bait fish ground into a pocket in your bc. The last guy I did that to had groupers flocking like girls on a rock star ;;D
P.S.
Don't ever hand your wallet while doing a stupid bet which involves swimming to a bouy and back at an all you can eat crab and lobster restaurant!

Fluff, go ahead dive ,enjoy, take pics.

I dove a lot last year 4 to 5 times a week. I never had any problem and in fact never got hit while I was diving! there were a few times that I did not go because I was already getting hit , but hey I don't go to the grocery with a HA, much less a boat ride ;;D

I posted a thread on this very subject some months ago and I remember there were a few Clusterheads that said they had to hang up their fins because of the beast so I suspect the only way to find out for yourself is to try.

I asked my neuro what he thought before I started and he said I would either have a great time or my head might explode 8)
Man I wish he wasn't retiring.....Tim
