Title: I need some help. Post by Hidden on Jul 20th, 2006, 3:21pm Hello, I am new and up to last week I had never heard of a cluster headache before. I am 17 and have an uncle who gets them really badly. I get headaches really badly, and since I was about 14-15 I have abused pain killers because of it. I was really to young to realise what exactly I was doing, but I saw one of my friends take three advils and it ended his headaches. So, next time I had an attack I poped 3 also and before you knew it I was taking 8 at a time. I moved to asprin when the advil stoped working, and continued the same story upuntil about the beginning of last year. At that point my headaches got so bad and I thought maybe they were due to the asprin that I took, because I had heard of asprin withdrawals giving people headaches.(O yeah at this point ai went to the doctor every week for two months and switched doctors twice). SO I just up and stoped taking the asprin. And I noticed how bad my headaches were. They would come and go, but with out the aprin they would eat me alive. At one point I walked up stairs got disy fell and the whole room swirled around me and went black. I opened my eyes and got up with pain thte shot from my temple to my eyelid. Three months after that I quit all my bad habits and the headaches were still there. The doctors could not help. I said fuck it and I sleep now baout 4 hours a day. I cant sleep for long periods of times and when I do it is from exastion. My headaches never really wake me up and I realise that I have a headache, but I will get up grab my head pee and then not be able to fall sleep because my eyes throb. That or I can get back to sleep. I never really noticed patterns with my headaches or that they were on one side and not the other, but when my uncle told me last week what I should watch for I began to. ANd I realised the more I thought of it I get them about every other month and between I will be fine. And when I get them, like right now, my left temple or right( because mine switch but are always on one side) will throb and shoot pain at my eye. The pain is always intense and I hande pain really well becuase I have grown acustom to it. I never get ligth sensitive, but lights will spin in rooms and flash brightly and then return to normal and repeat that patern. I am very testy if anyone entered this room I would proably tell them to go fuck themselves, but I dont wana sit down I would rather walk or write this thing to try to find out what the fuck is wrong with me. When I am still I tende to grinde my findernails into my palms and I always gitter in someway(rigth now my foot is on the ground and wont stop going up and down). Sorry for that long as paragraph, but I just got back form the doctor and he gave me sample pills of immatrex and was not convinced I had te headaches(neither am I), but I just wanted to know if anyone thought I could have them and not neccicarily have all the symptoms, such as nausia; I dont really get woken up to mush; my headahces switch sides but never during an attack; my eye does not get droopy; my nose on the attack side of my head is stuffy but i am not sure if that always occurs. If someone can tell me if maybe I have them it would be awesome. My headaches are usally 7's but I have had three attacks that stand out as 10's, so figuring out what these are would be amazing. And this immatrex is nto working very well, but I was told it would tkae 45 mins and it has been maybe 20 to 30, plus I just got it and took it int he middle of an attack. THX to anyone and I am sorry for poor grammer or spell I really do not have tha ptince to go back and check my words right now. Hidden |

Title: Re: I need some help. Post by Charlotte on Jul 20th, 2006, 3:29pm It is hard to spell when you're getting hit. What did the Dr say, exactly? Were you able to ask the Dr for O2? It won't help this time, but next time you get the twinges in your eyebrow, lip, chin area, take the imitrix then. The earlier in the headache, the better it works. Many people here use injectible triptans, but I sometimes use a small amount (1/4 tab) of maxalt mlt. For me, less is better. It is very hard to find something that helps. Have you tried non-medical things like ice packs, exercise, putting the car airconditioner full blast on pointed at your face, slamming a red bull energy drink? I am sorry the Dr's haven't been able to help. It is tricky to find what works. Good luck. Charlotte |

Title: Re: I need some help. Post by seasonalboomer on Jul 20th, 2006, 3:33pm Welcome Hidden. There is a great tool on the site. It is a quiz that you should take some time to answer carefully. http://www.clusterheadaches.com/quiz.html This will help you understand which symptoms are most indicative of Cluster Headache, and those that possibly are not. You're obviously experiencing some pretty serious discomfort. Did the doctor give you an MRI to rule out other things that may be easier to actually see than CH? Are you seeing a neurologist? If not, can you get your doctor to refer you to someone? Some of what you describe is CH, some of it is not all that clear. Let us know hoe the quiz turns out for you. Scott |

Title: Re: I need some help. Post by kristinjo on Jul 21st, 2006, 10:59pm Read, read, read and read somemore! There is so much info on this site. Read posts from others and keep asking questions! My hubby just started clusters and we went to the ER twice...now the Dr started him on 80mg tabs of Verapamil, 4x a day. This is controling the headaches, thank God. But he still feels as though he's in a fog. Remember to take the quiz, print off the info (we have a 3 ring binder that looks like a bible!) and even take it to your doctor to show him. Most Dr's aren't familiar with Clusters. Good luck and keep us posted! |
