Title: Please help a newbie! Post by 1swearymary on Jun 21st, 2006, 11:15am Hi to you all, have looked at this site on and off for a while but have only just registered. I live in the UK and am a chronic Ch'er. I only found some real help when i found the UK site for Clusterheads so I know how important these places are for people 'cos I was DESPERATE! I found more info than I got from doctors in years, the same old story I'm afraid, I was being treat by a dentist for jaw pain, sinus probs and GP insisted it was migraine when I knew it was very different as i have both. Anyway, I need some help and I figure this is the place to get it. I'm visiting Orlando, Florida in Sept. and want to find out about getting some oxygen. I was wondering if any of you guys who live in that area could give me any info. When I travelled to Greece last year I had to pay a good lump for large and portable tanks then I found out I could just go to pharmacy and get a small tank for 26euros. Would very much appreciate any help you can give, I just thought it would be much quicker than bouncing my head off endless brick walls here in UK. Many thanks :) |

Title: Re: Please help a newbie! Post by Linda_Howell on Jun 21st, 2006, 12:28pm To get 02 anywhere in the US you will need a prescription from a Dr. You don't say how long you plan to be in Orlando, but I believe you can rent a 02 rig from "LINCARE." Here is their info: Orlando-North Center 224 West Central Parkway Suite 1016 Altamonte Springs, Florida 32714 (407) 682-6644 FAX (407) 682-6623 Hope this helps. Linda |

Title: Re: Please help a newbie! Post by 1swearymary on Jun 21st, 2006, 1:46pm Thanks for that Linda, the thing is we don't get scripts from our doctors anymore, the whole system here in the UK has changed and it's not as easy or straightforward as it was promised to be. Thanks for the info tho much appreciated. |

Title: Re: Please help a newbie! Post by LeLimey on Jun 21st, 2006, 3:38pm Hi Sweary Mary! LOVE the name LOL I'm in an air products region although I know the guidelines are the same for all of them (see holiday o2 rules) Air Products provide a holiday service throught Europe and the US. You pay in £'s here before you go so there isn't any messing about that end. The freephone number for Air products is 0800 373580 and have you home oxygen order handy if poss. If not you'll have to just give them usual, name address post code and GP info so they can check your needs and arrange it for you. SHOULD be a lot better! If you need help finding any other o2 suppliers details shout okay? Have a lovely holiday! Helen |

Just so you know, you can still get a letter from your doctor here stating what you need. A prescription from this country wouldn't work overseas but that letter would give another doctor the info needed to prescribe from for you - hope that bit helps too! Helen |

Title: Re: Please help a newbie! Post by LeLimey on Jun 22nd, 2006, 4:34pm When going for insurance last year to go to Dallas I told them I had CH, they asked what meds I used and I said migraine meds, which, triptans are! They put it down as "Cluster Headaches" and in brackets "like migraines" and it didn't cost anything extra so I hope that helps! |

Title: Re: Please help a newbie! Post by 1swearymary on Jun 23rd, 2006, 5:25am Thanks for that tip bout fire stations, brill idea. As for the insurance I had one qoute on-line for £600, one for £250. The thing is I've got other health problems apart from CH and migraine, I'm worried the insurance and the oxygen is going to cost me as much as the holiday. So I'm thinking of talking to another insurance, declaring pre-existing but asking them not to cover for them as I will make sure I have everything I need with me to control my symptoms. At the worst it would mean a few days in bed in the villa. Then I get get regular cover for everything else, I know they'll prob charge me a premium just for having these problems but I'm hoping it will be cheaper. |
