Title: New Here Post by rgoldy1121 on May 22nd, 2006, 6:01pm Hello, Today I woke up with another painful headache. It is on one side starting in my shoulder blade, then into the base of my skull then pounding in my temple and having the feeling of an ice pick behind my eye. I feel like if I drilled a tiny hole in my temple and in the top part of the occiptial bone - closest to my nose and forehead - I could relieve some pressure. I also want to take my eye ball out and massage behind it. I get these a lot. I USUALLY wake up with them, but they can come on just out of the blue. Sometimes I get nauseated. If I bend over, the throbbing is so loud and painful that I want to smash my skull in a drawer. I wish I could be my own chiropracter and pop my neck, to try to relieve some pressure. I dont want to do anything. Just maybe get a vice and lie on the couch... I took some of the tests to determine what kind of headaches I get. My answers are all over the place. Mostly signs of cluster headaches, and then some answers are not. Who knows. I am just glad to know that there is a place I can talk about how painful my headaches are to someone who will understand. |

Title: Re: New Here Post by Guiseppi on May 22nd, 2006, 9:44pm Well if you wanna talk about the pain the people here do understand. Are you using only over the counter meds now???? Get to a doctor and try for an accurate diagnosis. If it is clusters, please try oxygen. Link on the left describes how to admisnister it. Works miracles for many people stopping a majority of their headaches. You describe a headache simlar to how mine come on. How old are you? In my late teens early 20's they would stop on a dime like that and just be gone! I'm 46 now, if I don't take anything I have 45 to 90 minutes of hell! You have a lot of reading to do on this board because belive me, if it is clusters you will have to educate your doctor. The good news is there are some beautiful people on this board who'd love to help you. Guiseppi |

Title: Re: New Here Post by rgoldy1121 on May 22nd, 2006, 9:50pm Guiseppi, Thank you for your response. I am almost 35 and have been getting these types of headaches since Hish School. I am sooo overwhelmed by all the information on this site. But, in little doses, I think it will be less of a mountain. |

Title: Re: New Here Post by Guiseppi on May 22nd, 2006, 10:10pm I'll try to break it down a little. You need two separate strategies. A preventative: Something you will take regularly that will lessen the number and severity of your attacks. I use lithium, others use verapamil, and many other meds you'll find under preventatives. Then you need an abortive: The headache starts up and you want it to stop! I take an oral Cafergot and breathe oxygen, this stops most of them. If I get caught away from oxygen I use imitrex injectables. Effective but they are a little weird on your body so not my first choice. Stay away from over the counter stuff, they really don't help much and can cause rebounds. Wish you luck in finding a path that works for you. Guiseppi |
