Title: Few Questions for a newcomer
Post by stretch on May 3rd, 2006, 9:40am
First of all I would like to say thanks to all involved with the running and upkeep of this site. I've found it very useful thus far with my problem and hopefully can continue to be.    ;)

I've just started to suffer with these types of headaches and was wondering if anybody else has had a dull pain constantly in their head, not as a lead-up to the major pain? I've had a cluster (or so it seems) for the past 6 weeks now. I get the severe pain, but not as bad as others so it seems, but the constant dull throb had me more worried.

If anybody could shed any light on this for me I would greatly appreciate it.  Once again Thanks

The best advise is to see your doc, It may not be associated and if there is another problem you need to get that addressed. Hope you get to feeling better soon and have alot of PF times ahead.

Mike

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Have been to see doc's numerous times and she's stumped!!! Made a couple of visits to A&E as well, still with no joy.
I have been referred to a neurologist, but just waiting on an appointment (damn NHS!)
Just hope somebody's gonna help, if this keeps up I swear im gonna go nuts!!!

It is poss you are experiencing shadows and mixed with low level hits. also what some call ghost hits. ... look at the links to the left and see if anything there helps.

There is also a Cluster headache specific area and read helpful hints and some other posts there. alot of info I know but pretty good stuff. also ask the question there too some folks stay there and they are great sourse of info.

Mike

Welcome! While you wait for your appointment, check out the cluster quiz on the left. It will give you an idea if what you have is CH or not, but only your Neuro can give you a definite DX.

Sometimes I do have dull pain constantly, unless I do somthing to abort it. We call it Shadows in these parts, and strong coffee, or anything with caffeine, gets rid of them for me. Careful, though, if it's not CH, caffeine may make it worse.

Hi stretch, nice to meet ya.

Yep, I got quite a bit of that during my last cycle, which ended in January.  I figured they were shadows (sob's never went away!), but a few definitely were migraines that jumped in to really give me a helluva cycle.

Definitely talk to your dr. about them. What meds does your dr currently have you on?

Hope  you get some painfree time soon.

Jen

Hubby's had a constant shadow this cycle (since March 4).  Never goes away.  Varies between K1 and K3.  But he also gets hit with K8s and K9s multiple times a day.  The Kudzu has cut down the intensity of the hits.

Could be what Ghost said - shadows with low level hits.

Good luck.  And if you find something that works to alleviate the situation......

Wishing you pain free days and nights,

Laurie

Hi Stretch,

Just wanted to let you know that i get exactly the same. A dull ache in the back of my head. I'm a newcomer too so won't be of much help to you but i sympathise with you. I'd put the pain at a k3, this is preety much a constant throughout my cycle. It sucks.

Hi Stretch & Willow
Welcome to your new family, but sad you have to be here.
I see some of the long termer’s have already pointed you in the right direction about Doc’s etc so I won’t re-iterate.
You may be interested in a trial I am doing with Taurine; I like you have suffered badly with shadows since my cycle finished 14 months ago so I decided to try the Taurine and am getting some reasonable results with it, I'm only 17 days into it so nothing is conclusive as yet but may be worth a read for you.
The link below will take you straight to the post.

Kind Regards
Barry

Hi and Welcome,

I have only one word ... Shadows.

I have them 24/7 during cycle, interrupted only by the hard hits a couple of times per day.  The only thing that holds them at bay for me is a really strong hit of caffiene.  For me, the shadow pain is almost worse than the hits.  It's the constant, nagging discomfort that drags you down and brings on depression.

Hang in there.

Kris

Thanks very much to all for the helpful replies, not only from myself but from the wife as well! Found that a good couple of expresso's did the trick to stop the real pain starting, or at least put it off for a bit!
As for the posts regarding medication, the doctor's and also hospital are reluctant to put me on any kind of medication as they are unsure of what it could be. So unfortunatley atm it's just good old coffee and water.
Will keep you guys posted on how i get on.
Once again thanks for all the support and help ;)
