Title: Any left siders?
Post by Will_Williams on Dec 29th, 2005, 2:16am
So far, most of the stories I've read are pertaining to the right side of the head. Does anybody get it on the left side like me, or am I special? LoL, Seriously though...  Also, what is an 02 tank?

Post by ..Danielle.. on Dec 29th, 2005, 2:35am
Me too, 13 years episodic

37, female, 2 kids

An O2 tank refers to Oxygen Tanks. Check out the info to the left

Oh and you have to be "special" in soooo many ways to be in this group. But there's lots of info and support here when you need it.

I'm a lefty too and I've had (thankfully very few) a few stabs to the right too. There are several people here who have had it switch sides and there have been several theories about left handed left sided and so on, none of which hold water!

Lefty here too...and I'm also left-handed, but I think that is just a coincidence.  I have never had the sides switch on me.

Right handed. Both son's left handed. CH generally on right side, but will switch from time to time just to keep me on my ambidextrous toes.

30 years. Left side only. Never had a righty.

My brother doesn't have clusters but does have a left handed wife. She's weird. He's worse off than I'll ever be.

Always on my left side.  Started in 1977, and get them every other year for anywhere from 8--to--12 weeks. During my twenties and thirties they were their worst...but even now I really hate getting them.

I am a right-handed person who almost  always experiences left-side headaches. I am 54 and have been a sufferer since I was 15.  In my teens they would switch sides but early on decided they liked the left side of my head better!
I am currently not in cycle but thought I would check in to see what's new.  Good luck.  There is so much helpful info here.

Will,
I am a lefty also.  In fact all of my CH's have been only on the left side.

Hope you are doing better.  Stay strong.

This is my first posting as I just joined yesterday.  It's great to be able to talk with other CHers.

Given the pedigree already shown by left siders I'm delighted  to be able to include myself in such notable company.

Suffered for years as an annual episodic misdiagnosed, mistreated after years of experience I'd suggest O2 (ideally through a clustermasx - look up the threads there are long and short stories on thve racked up at) and a visit to the clusterbusters website are worth a few minutes of anyone's time who suffers with CH - it's the best I can come up with.

But you know what ?

For a lot of people it's a fantastic set of options compared to the alternatives.

Yes  Many left sided episoded.  Most infact.  Over 18 years 98% left sided.  Sorry to tell you but they are getting worse from age 40 -50.

Hi,

I am a new clusterhead.  Have had them for about 5 straight years now.  Left side only.  Just about drives a person insane, especially 3 in the morning.  You are not alone.  I started with them when I turned 50. The first one took 2 shots of morphine to make it subside.  At first just early morning, started last year during the day. I would rather go to the dentist.

Currently right sided.  Last cluster period was right sided, too.  Up until a few years ago, they were almost always on the left.

I am extremely right handed.

All of my attacks (23 yrs. worth) have been on the left side.
The one exception (a full-blown hair-puller) to the right led me to believe that I had truly gone insane. I'll gladly stick to the left, thank you.

I bat and play golf right handed but I blame that anomaly on the nuns. 65 years ago to be a left hander was considered "Gauche"................ Did I really say that??????????

Ninety percent of the time my cluster headaches are on the right side, but when they do start on the left, probably 75% of the time they will then "move" to the right side after a week or two...

I'm left-handed, but I'm not sure that it makes any difference in the side of the "attack".

Title: Re: Any left siders?

right side here... usually they center directly behind my right eye. A few years back, they were behind my left eye. I do not remember when they switched sides, or if there was a reason why, but to this day, it is the left eye that gets totally bloodshot when I get one of the really bad ones. The doc cannot explain it, and I dont think he really understands it.

Hey there

I am also a left sider, I could easily loose the left side of my head when I get a CH, I am actually getting very worried on Monday night I had the most severe CH that I have ever experienced, I passedout for a few minuts or seconds and when I came too my whole body was jerking as though I was having a fit. I thought I was having a stroke from the extreme pain. How do you explain to others how painful these things are? I have an idea they all think we are whimps, but I am also sure that all those who think that would not survive one CH! Thanks o all of you for such a wonderful site. I was diagnosed 10 years ago with clusters and only now found the site, I was tiotally taken aback when I was reading about myself on the site, it is exactly what I am going through. This cycle has been for 4 weeks now and I dread going o bed at night as exactly 2 hours after I put my head down I wake up with the pain, and hen it is usually too far gone to stop it, at least if I am awake I can feel it starting and then take smoe pain killers for it, not they work too well either.

This is a description of a grandmal seizure.
Passing out with no recollection of the amount of time that passed, body spasiming uncontrolably...

You need to see a doctor. You could have something more serious going on. If nothing else, maybe a med to help control the attacks, if just a little.
No comments made about O2, so am going to suggest you get some, like, yesterday! If used correctly, it can be a very effective abortive.

I am going to stress that you really need to see a doctor.

Pain free wishes, my friend

I get hit on both sides but mostly the left.  An O2 tank is an oxygen container.  it is made of metal and the oxygen is placed in it under high amounts of pressure.

At any rate my ch  has allways been on my left side and i experience the same exact things that everyone else does but one thing i have not read in anyones experiences is a painfull burning sensation in my left nostral just before my left nostral shuts right down and i cant breathe through it. I wonder if anyone else experiences this ?

Sorry to hear your one of us, but glad you found the site.

Been a left sider for 18 years. Right handed and left eye dominant though. There is a simple test (that I can't recall now) to find your dominant eye, mostly used for shooter's of bow & arrows & firearms. I learned that a considerable number of Police officers actually shoot with the "off hand" because of this.

Just hit me about the left eye with me.       SKyhawk5

I am a lefty and nor sure how long I have had CH since I suffer from bad sinusitis as well and think have been misdiagnosed for about ten years. They got it right two years ago and now I am back at it again. My headaches come and go all day long with just minutes of pain free times in-between. Is that normal or am I just lucky?

At the risk of sounding like a broken record - I'm new here and 100% leftie.

I often think it wold be nice if they would switch sides - that way all the dents I hammer into the left side of my head would have matches on the right side and I would look more symetrical! yuk yuk yuk

Just diagnosed with cluster headaches on 7/12.  Only on the left side.  This cycle started in January and hasn't subsided yet.  In fact, it's only gotten more intense as time has worn on.  My first attack was 1991, also on the left side and lasted only a mere 3 weeks.  I'm right handed in everything I do, well except for, uh, er.......nevermind........ :o

left side - left handed.  does anyone else get the pain in the back of your neck then down your back & left arm? eventually it goes down to my left foot.  i'm on depakote. verapamil didn't work. o2 doesn't seem to help either. imitrex has been helping along w/ soma & 2 lunestas for going unconscious.  mine last steady for 2 to 3 weeks. i have to go to work & function. very hard. the telephone receiver is my favorite head banging tool. friday i shut my hand in a door at work to make my head feel better.  guys at work thought i was crazy. i am. ice helps & my desk is close to an ice machine & i keep my office freezing for a reason.  looking at the monitor is hard.  hurts to hold my head at that angle for more than a few minutes. drove to FL last week w/ 4 dogs - 1 terminally ill & being medicated every 4 hours. somehow i made it. took 26 hrs for a 19 hr trip.  i have to try to work some now so see you all later.  jackieo

I usually get mine on the right side, but sometimes on the left.  My worst headaches are always on the right side.  This spell started on the left side about two months ago and was mild starting out.  It moved over to the right side a few weeks ago.  The last 10 days it has been kicking my ass!  My spells usually last 4 months every other year, although I have skipped a year twice.  What does it all mean?
