Title: That moment of clarity LOL Post by Jenglebells on Dec 24th, 2007, 1:32pm Finishing up the baking, Mom's Christmas Coffee Cake. I've made it countless times, but only once a year so its not one I've committed to memory. Yank out the old cookbook, measure measure measure, stir, .....don't remember the batter being quite this thin, but I musta really whipped up those eggs! Filling, then the rest of the batter, and into the oven. After the first hour I check on what smells so yummy.... hmmmmmm There it is, nice a golden, though I coulda sworn it rose more than this.. but there it was, bubbling away. For those of you who don't cook much, coffee cake should NOT bubble. This was my second hint that something was amiss but I shrugged it off. The "lightbulb" went on in my head when I dumped the cake onto the cooling rack and damn if it didn't DRIP. It was then that I realized that 1c. flour and 4c. flour look SURPRISINGLY similar when one doesn't put on her glasses! [smiley=crackup.gif] Guess I need to wear my glasses, huh? |

Title: Re: That moment of clarity LOL Post by Jackie on Dec 24th, 2007, 1:47pm Uhoh, Jen..... ::) Sounds like something I'd do... Like when I put ground cloves instead of cumin in the Coney sauce. The kitchen smelled like a pumpkin pie baking rather than a hot dog stand.... :P Try again, Sweetie..... ;) Much love... Jackie |

Title: Re: That moment of clarity LOL Post by Mosaicwench on Dec 25th, 2007, 12:08am LOL Jen - can't tell you how long I've been in your shoes. I now have reading glasses laying around in every room of the house. If all else fails and I can't find a pair, I have my son read whatever needs reading FOR ME!! Now that's pathetic! Merry Christmas dear - a strong and healthy New Year to you too! |

Title: Re: That moment of clarity LOL Post by cash5542 on Dec 25th, 2007, 7:53pm Losing eyesight is quite frustrating. My biggest mistake was taking 4 ibuprofen for my shoulder pain but I didn't have my glasses on and took 4 benadryl instead. Both were Walmart generics and the packages were similar. Another big mistake is Tbsp and Tsp. look similar without the glasses on. Makes a big difference when dealing with spices ect. Charlotte |
