Title: Re: Predisone and chest pain Post by brewcrew on Dec 21st, 2007, 10:01pm Nope. That's just the evil inside you trying to get out. Seriously, I've probably done a dozen prednisone tapers, and I've never had chest pain with it. |

Title: Re: Predisone and chest pain Post by chewy on Dec 21st, 2007, 10:13pm It wasn't a sudden thing Nani. Its been going on fr a day or two. Pain might be the wrong way to describe it. Its not sharp. More like your whole chest contracting into a huge knot all at once and sudden. Wierd. |

Title: Re: Predisone and chest pain Post by brewcrew on Dec 21st, 2007, 10:16pm 9-1-1 might not be a bad idea. Or have somebody drive you to urgent care or an emergency room. |

Please call her and find out if you need to be seen. And then follow her advice. |

Title: Re: Predisone and chest pain Post by chewy on Dec 21st, 2007, 10:36pm Advice nurse. Honestly. I've never heard of that before. I ate at a Morrocan restaurant last night. I'm thinking maybe the spices they use might have something to do with it. I called the people I was with and they seem to be fine though. Quote:

Title: Re: Predisone and chest pain Post by Annette on Dec 21st, 2007, 10:38pm Chewy If the pain is left sided or central of chest, feels like tightening and heavy like something is squeezing/crushing the chest and you get some sensation of shortness of breath, especially if its travelling up the neck or down the ( left ) arm with a weak, heavy sensation or tingling down the arm then it 90% cardiac in origin. You really should be seen by a doctor and get a ECG ( electrocardiograph ) and some blood tests ( cardiac enzymes ) done NOW. Many heart pain start out a bit vague before the real deadly heart attack sets in. Please dont hesitate anymore, get yourself seen and checked NOW please. I dont think its the prednisone at all. |

Its neither really. Its more like both sides contracting to the middle all at once and sudden. It started a day after I started the pred. Started the pred Wednesday and got the first pains last night. I figured it was either the pred. or the Morrocans. |

Possibly diaphragm or esophageal spasm but still cant rule out heart problem by that description. In the chest area, there are only a few things that can cause problems : lungs, heart, esophagus, stomach and muscles/ribs. Lungs/muscles/ribs dont cause pain like that, esophageal and stomach may but usually would cause acid reflux or nausea at the same time. Atypical chest pain can feel different to the classic heart pain and can catch you off guard. If its heart, the longer you leave it the more damage it can cause to the cardiac muscles and most will be irreversible. Its not worth taking the risk, I would rather get checked out now and be told its a false alarm than to find out its too late !!! |

None of that going on. I'm stopping the pred. and we'll see what happens. If it continues I'll get it checked out. Could still be the damn Morracans. |

Title: Re: Predisone and chest pain Post by Annette on Dec 22nd, 2007, 2:50am May have to ask Jonny to drive over and drag him to the nearest doctor ! This is why I always get those patients 5 mins before closing time coming in complaining of chest pain that they have had for the whole day but didnt want to come to check out, hoping that it would go away. It makes life very difficult as often I wouldnt have enough time to run all the tests and getting the results back quickly enough to make a good decision on how serious the condition is. This time of the year its worse, many labs are closed, most places only have skeletal staff ... waiting time is longer ... The many times I have had to call the ambulance urgently to rush them to hospital because the ECG already shows signs of cardiac muscle death is mind boggling. Please Chewy, take care of yourself. |
