Title: Re: I want my pecuter to run faster... Post by Ray on Dec 11th, 2007, 5:52pm Dear Melissa: Since this is a laptop, in general you wouldn't upgrade the processor. About the only thing you can upgrade is the memory. As windows 2000, XP, and Vista can make use of huge amounts of RAM, that is your best bet. In theory, you could find a PIII 1 Gig processor, but that would only be a 15% increase, and practically impossible to notice. You may want to think about putting aside whatever you can towards your next computer. Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear. With regards, Ray |

Title: Re: I want my pecuter to run faster... Post by Mosaicwench on Dec 11th, 2007, 8:27pm Is it that it has slowed down recently or are you looking to run some whopper program on it? If it has slowed down recently, it's probably spyware and mal-ware which can be cleaned off and gain you some speed. |

Title: Re: I want my pecuter to run faster... Post by MvT on Dec 11th, 2007, 10:22pm ok first I would try increasing the page file (virtual memory) or physical memory like ram second start then run then type msconfig go to the start up tab and disable everything but the anitvirus third check your power settings fourth clear the prefetch do a disk cleanup fith maybe change the antivirus to AVG and remove some programs sixth reinstall windows if you have your disks you can buy a ide to sata converter if you have xp if all that dose not work try linux or by a new machine you can look on google for performance tweaks and services lots of good information because its a laptop their is not much for upgrading or replacement parts but theres still alot of people without computers people with dissabillities.... students ect..... |

Title: Re: I want my pecuter to run faster... Post by Paul98 on Dec 12th, 2007, 4:02am Mel, Most laptops don't have enough RAM when they came from the factory. (800MHZ =~ 5-6 years old and probably only has 256M of RAM) See if you can add mroe RAM and de-fragment the hard drive, and clean out any unnessary side applications that run in the backround. I have a 600MHZ laptop with 256 M RAM and it works OK if I keep the crap off of it and limit what I do with it. -P. |
