Title: Forget about illegals, we're doing ourselves in Post by deltadarlin on Dec 8th, 2007, 7:12pm http://www.qctimes.com/articles/2007/12/02/news/local/doc47523ffc749ce944955510.txt DOn't misunderstand me, there are good teenage mothers out there (my niece-in-law is one, had her first at 15, got her GED, got a job and she is an awesome parent~married my nephew after she divorced her husband). BUT, in most cases, this is not the case and forever and a day, we, the taxpayers will be paying for this. |

Title: Re: Forget about illegals, we're doing ourselves i Post by HeadhurtinMama on Dec 8th, 2007, 8:19pm I just can't understand this... I'm two years older than the grandmother in this story, and my boys are 2 and 4. Maybe I lead a sheltered life, but maybe parents need to be more involved in their kids lives. |

Title: Re: Forget about illegals, we're doing ourselves i Post by nani on Dec 8th, 2007, 8:21pm I got pregnant at 15. Had 2 kids in diapers and got divorced by 18.I was never on any kind of public assistance, either. I find it funny that the people who yell loudest about giving kids birth control at school, also yell the loudest about having to support these kids and their kids on welfare. (not aimed at you, Carolyn...just a general observation) |

Title: Re: Forget about illegals, we're doing ourselves i Post by deltadarlin on Dec 8th, 2007, 9:04pm Nani, Hope you weren't yelling at me ;)! From a very early age, we educated Sarah about sex and birth control (Jimbo worked in communicable disease back then, so misinformation was not a problem). She knew that she could come to either of us if she wanted to get on the pill or use any form of birth control. Now, I do have somewhat of a problem with schools giving out bc pills to 11-12 year olds, HOWEVER, and that's a biggie, kids are gonna do what kids are gonna do and I don't care what you say or do as a parent, when a kid decides to have sex, they're going to do it. Information is the key here. The biggest problem I have with the younger kids is that most of them forget their homework, how in the hell are they going to remember to take a pill every day? |

Title: Re: Forget about illegals, we're doing ourselves i Post by Annette on Dec 8th, 2007, 10:21pm One of the potential problems with giving birth control pills to children from as young as 11-12 is the long term effect of the hormones. There has been studies and trials to show continous long term OCP ( oral contraceptive pills ) can lead to menstruation problems, weight gain, increased risk of hypertension, diabetes, breast cancer, deep vein thrombosis, stroke etc later in life. There is also an indirect link to increased risk of STD, many teenagers neglect to use condoms because they think the pills are already doing the job or they worry more about pregnancy than infection. Parents should be more involved in the childrens lives but given todays society its easier said than done. |

Title: Re: Forget about illegals, we're doing ourselves i Post by BarbaraD on Dec 9th, 2007, 7:07am Sorry kids, but I come from the OLD school. Sex education is for parents to impart in their kids NOT the schools or the government. But parents are also responsible for some moral values in their kids. I think that's where they're missing the boat these days. You're right Carolyn, you and Jimbo took the "time" with Sarah and look how she turned out. Too many parents don't do that. When 11-12 year olds NEED birth control pills, something is WRONG at home and this is where the problem lies. Hugs BD |

I pray for healthy children and parents . It is quite a developemental task for children to raise children . They must receive a great deal of love and grace from God . phil h |

Some have a mixed set of values to teach. I learned from Mighty Mouse, the Lone Ranger, Superman, and Popeye. then there was Top Cat, Muskie Muskrat, Wylie Coyote, and Heckyl and Jeckyll. undressed a Barbie doll once but never tied girls to railroad tracks. |

Title: Re: Forget about illegals, we're doing ourselves i Post by jimmers on Dec 9th, 2007, 8:43am And I'm sure the baby's Daddy won't have to be responsible for anything. The taxpayer will take care of that for him, What a deal! Same shit, different day. |

Absolutely, in fact, it says in the article that she's not with the baby's daddy. Look at the mama, she has two more small kids. And what parent in their right mind would take their kid to get *inked* at the age of 15? And Barbara, you are right, but unfortunately, a lot of parents either (a) don't know how to talk about sex to their kids, (b) won't talk about sex to their kids because they are embarassed or (c) really really don't think that *their* little angel will do something like that. |

Title: Re: Forget about illegals, we're doing ourselves i Post by BarbaraD on Dec 9th, 2007, 1:34pm You can say what you want to about the old days, but parents "explained" enough to us (and sex was a taboo subject back in the 40s and 50s) and the kids talked among themselves to learn the rest. But PEER pressure kept down teen pregnacies cause "nice girls just didn't!" Instead of giving kids birth control pills maybe we should start instilling some moral values in them, but that would entail going back a couple of generations wouldn't it? If the parents don't have any moral values (and they're not as common as they used to be) then they can't teach them now can they? Hate to get on a soapbox here, but maybe we should put prayer back in the schools.... one woman got it taken out - do you think a majority of people could get it put back? I've got a 6 year old grandson coming up in this society and it scares the hell out of me. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Forget about illegals, we're doing ourselves i Post by Charlie on Dec 9th, 2007, 6:57pm Someone in the family needs to be the adult. Adults are rare today. Everybody watches sitcoms where the kids are for the most part more capable than the grownups. I had a Doctor once ask me if I discovered a way to "stimulate yourself for pleasure." I'll never forget that exact string of words. God was I embarrassed. :o I thought I'd discovered something new a few years before. This was tied in with my seeing neurologists. Dad didn't disagree with what I had learned. That's all I needed from him. 8) Kids need a parent or uncle that isn't afraid of everything under the sun. Charlie |

What is your problem here? I don't think the title meant that we would actually *forget* about the illegals. Yes they are a big problem, but overall, they are a part of the problems facing the US, not the sum total of all the problems in the US. If you think that the illegals are the only one putting a drain on tax dollars, best look again. The welfare entitlement program is gobbling up money as fast as the treasury can print new bills (and we haven't even started on how much money this war in Iraq is costing us or the billions of dollars in aid that we send overseas every year). |
