Title: WHAT ARE U GETTING????...
Post by Langa on Dec 3rd, 2007, 3:56pm
Your spouse or special other for Christmas?

I have no clue what to get Gordo.  I think I found one thing he'd like.  And I need to go through his mother because you just can't hide anything from the man.  I mean, just because I went through all kinds of acrobatics to see if I could find my gifts in the basement, doesn't give him the right to snoop.   ::)

Anyway, Any Ideas?

A cabana boy and a gardener.

What does he do for hobbies?  Does he like power tools (hell, don't they all ;;D)

One year I gave Bill a staple gun for Christmas because I wanted to cover the dining room chairs.

Tickets to a sporting even?  Dinner for two at some nice place?  Detailing for his car?

Just some random thoughts.

Well he's an avid reader, as am I, but I don't think we could fit another book in this house and he likes fortune magazine and business week - do you think getting him a subscription to both would be tacky?  And he's a big boxing fan, as am I.  I think I know about a boxing gift.  He met Muhammad Ali when he was young and spent 2 days with him. He has a scrapbook and everything - him sparring with him and what not and he's always wanted the poster of Ali boxing underwater?  Have you guys ever seen it?  Posters.com doesn't have it...hmmm...
as the search continues...

here is the link to the underwater boxing poster.

If he likes to read, does he like to hear books on cd?  or IPod or something like that?

My kids and husband love movies, so I end up getting alot of those especially this Christmas where we dont have a lot of extra money.

Thanks T. He has mentioned an interest in books on CD, maybe I could look into that.  Oh and thanks for the link.  They don't frame here though - posters.com has that option.  Anyway, I can always buy the frame and frame it myself.

Thanks!

For the past couple years we've agreed not to get each other anything for Christmas.  I've stuck to that deal, but that doesn't mean the kids & Santa arn't giving him anything either. ;;D

On that note, a Columbia winter jacket, slippers, a buck fireplace bellow, shower shaving mirror, Fatherhood T-shirt, coffeemaker, bone/meat saw and one other thing I can't remember.

Loca! Why didn't you tell me.
My ex-brother in-law is a boxing trainer.  He knows a lot of people so maybe if not that poster.. maybe he can come up with something else in the realm of boxing that is special.

And then I could deliver it.  Yea, yea, that's the ticket.  I could deliver it in person.

Let's see if this can work out..  ;;D

Darryl said he was thinking of getting me a gun, but he knew that it wouldn't be long before these words came outta my mouth: "Honestly Officer, I thought it was an intruder!"

I have no idea what to get him, but Hannah had a really cool idea, since he is so hard to buy for. One thing about D, is that he has a very generous spirit when it comes to people in need.

So for Christmas, she bought, in his name, 2 chicks (as in chickens) for a family in (can't remember what country she told me).  I thought that was pretty cool!

we agree to give whatever we were going to get for each other to the less fortunate since we already got our daughter and son's christmas gifts.  We are going to give each other a gift from the heart. We will get enough by seeing our little girl's face light up on christmas day when she opens her presents  :). and I will post pics of course  ;).
This one will be also the first Christmas my stepson will spend with us after coming back from Irak so we are looking forward a memorable ocasion.

Mireille is going to have a great Christmas since I got today a big box with presents from my mom to her and my cousins already told me they also sent some stuff for her. She is a lucky girl!  ;;D

I will get the time to spend visiting with my Mom, Dad, Step-Mom, Step-Father, brother, sis-in-law at the beach and then spend Christmas Eve at  John's parents' house with loads of kids and extended family.

Of course we will have John's Dad's special egg nog while sitting next to a nice, warm fire in the fireplace.

Family and friends...doesn't get any better than that!! Well, it would if all of our CH family was in one place but you will all be on my mind and in my thoughts.

Awww Cyn...that sounds so wonderful.  I remember when Mom was still alive, and still had all her faculties...Christmas eve was our night together.  If the kids were with me, we'd wait till they were in bed and then spend the night wrapping gifts and talking about "old times" and having a few Tom and Jerry's.  (Mom made the best batter in the universe)

Years when the Kids were with Dad, we'd wrap early, have a fabulously decadent dinner we'd prepare together, then go to a local pub for a bit of holiday cheer.  Go home and talk the night away.  Stories of old.  Her Christmas making the pie crust and forgetting the shorning and using a chizzle to get threw the rock hard crust.   Oh the laughter...the love shared..

I miss that.  I miss Mom.  Blessed Be the season and Blessed Be to each and every one of you...

A very Merry Yule to you all.

Pegg,

I really don't like how crazy the holidays have become.  People rushing around like crazy, traffic, stressed to the max, etc.

Maybe it comes with getting older and appreciating family and friends....those who are still here and those who are no longer with us but who are in our hearts forever.

Guess I get a bit more sentimental than usual around this time of year and learn to appreciate the things that cannot be found at a store but that are found thru family and friends.

Gee, I am sounding really sappy aren't I? ::)

It gets even sappier when you had it, and it's no longer there.

I wish I didn't miss those times with Mom so much.  Maybe the tree would be decorated by now.  Maybe I'd have dome more shopping for the kids.  (Still waiting on shipment from my eBay purchases.) Just another freaking dissapointment.  100% positive reviews and I still haven't gotten any shipping confirmation on either purchase.  I KNEW I should never have trusted Ebay. It's all a scam.

I hear ya Redd.

My mom's been gone 22 years and I miss her the most.  She was the one who pulled the Holidays together with the special touches.  Everyone seemed to orbit around her - and gratefully so.  She was so much fun.

I'm especially sorry at this time of year that my son never knew her and only knows how disfunctional and crazy our family has become rather than how fun it used to be.

Our Christmas plans this year include gritting our teeth through the obligatory visit with MIL (and SIL and offspring) on Christmas Eve and then a movie by ourselves on Christmas day . . .

Ain't saying.

Elizabeth doesn't read the boards, but Ellen does.

Ellen's the worst keeper-of-secrets I've ever seen.  She pure-dee sucks at keeping secrets.  Not that she tells, but she hints to death.  It's like a reflex.  She can't help it.

She'll never be a priest.  Or a cop.

Thank goodness.

Well... I can't really reveal what I'm getting this year, because Timo is reading this board quite often.

But I must admit that this has been so far one tough year to figure out what to give to all my friends, because only one of them as hinted what she'd like. And that friend is the one I usually could get lots of presents anyway, because I know her so well.

And mom... she's going with "let's not buy that much presents this year" and has not told me anything she'd want to have. So she'll get some kind of licorice (she loves it) for sure.

More memory. For the computer, not me. ;;D Angie and I each Christmas buy something electronic, either for the home theatre or for the computer. Because we have so many video clips from our biking, we need to add some more memory to the puter.

We also, because we do not have our own children, do a toy donation for our local toy drive, nice to put a smile on a kid's face at Christmas, makes us feel good! :)

NOTE: We will read the label very closely, no kid is getting a toy from China from us. ;)

Hehe You are too funny.  I paid to take us to the holiday nursing ball on December 14 once I return from Florida.  (Oh - I haven't mentioned here that I leave for Ft. Lauderdale tomorrow morning for a conference and then on Friday will be driving to Sarasota to spend a week with the g'rents!)

But anyway - money is very tight for Jason and I, and I wasn't actually planning on spending as much as I did for the fleece, but he really wanted it.  For his birthday, which is in March, I will probably be spending a little less.  Apparently for my birthday, which is in a week, he is getting me a DVD or something, but his present for me for Christmas is expensive - even though I told him not to spend his money on me!  I have no idea what it is - he hasn't dropped any hints except to try to figure if it'll work in my apartment and whether or not my cat will try to destroy it!

Another year, when the finances aren't quite so tight, I will follow your advice - I like the idea of getting him something he wants and then surprising him with some other small gift, too! :)  My mom is buying him a gift for Christmas, and he doesn't know what that is - so at least we've got that!  hehe

Hugz,
Carrie :)

Not trying to be a downer but kinda lost the whole christmas spirit.

It was Christmas time across the world,
For most the pain of days past forgotten.
Shorter days, and longer nights gave no relief,
Knowing the pain would return, his only belief.
Had to still complete the tasks at hand,
He was but a man.
Chronic he now is,
Days without pain he remembers.
Wishing for relief, for just a few days,
His children he knows have games to play.
How he wishes he could join but knows he cant finish,
For the pain like a thief will his pleasure diminish.
Try he will, but succeed still uncertain,
He puts his guard down and his head will start hurting.
A break he will take, when asked will say,
I am doing just fine, go back in and play.
I only know but for this beast would I be,
A Daddy like my children want.
My life a mess I truly believe,
Then the gift of family comes back to me.
To let them down truly a shame it would be,
The Beast I fight and keep it to me.
For it’s Christmas time and my duty is clear,
The Beast will not win again this year.
Not matter how much I struggle alone,
My children and wife are my true throne.
For with them I win alone I may falter,
My life it is clear, My family my alter.
To us that battle no matter from where,
We too are family, an alter to share.
Give hope to each other no matter how hard,
Our love for each other, our true Christmas card.

This the only thing he has mentioned that he would like, other than the new Eagles CD.  He's not much help here...sigh.

Thanks guys.  I got some good laughs out of this thread.

Well, I sent my Mom in law the link Tiannia sent me (thanks girl) and I also ordered some other goodies for him.  In the process I got myself some really nice boots - Ya know, I was thinking of Gordo the whole time I ordered them.  LOL

Redd, my heart goes out to you.  Christmas is really a sad time for a lot of people.  I lost my sister in March, but it feels like yesterday.  I always spent Christmas Day with her and the kids.  She was a great cook.  I miss her so much it hurts physically.  My mother is not doing well either.  I called her yesterday and she wanted to know how my Mom was doing... :'(  I have no idea who she thought I was).

Goatie, I love you - you are and always will be our special goat.   :-*

Helen, as usual, you had me laughing so hard with your posts.

Love you guys,
Langa

That's when you go out and buy for YOURSELF a  remote control shoe caddy Pegg.

I can have one of those too?  ....or is it a one-or-the-other sorta thing?

Just asking.  One of these years, if I'm extra good, maybe Santa will be extra nice.

Best,

George

A spouse is something I'm quite happy without Pegg but special others I have ton's of - everyone here for a start!  :)

"A" Special other is just that. Someone who knows you inside you and loves you anyway (Hi Paul!!)

Without knocking any of the adorable husbands here  in Clusterville, of whom there are many I admire greatly -  my experience has been that a special other is one who puts a smile on your face and a spouse is one who wipes it off for you  ;;D
