Melissa,

If I could get a snow blower big enough to hit central WI from Minneapolis I would surely send it all your way!

Rolo.. ;)

Nah, you're not nutz, Mel.  I love the snow, too.

We're supposed to get some snow here tomorrow but it's more than likely going to change to freezing rain later in the day.

Enjoy and have fun.

Woke up to about 4" of the shit yesterday. It's settled down to about 2" now.....but more on the way. Not really looking foward to it, but what hell can ya do (other than move). Snow pretty much sucks im my book.

We're in line for it today, too.

The part that sucks is they're are calling for significant glazing of ice after the snow falls.  That means power lines go down and then there is no electricity and thus no CH.COM!!!

Snow yes . . . Ice, no thank you!

Yup, where suppose to get 2-6 inches of snow with lots of freezing rain and sleet on top of it.  I got the candles, flashlights, and oil lamps out just in case the power goes out.  It is suppose to snow and rain from 6am Sat. to 6am Sun.  I can't wait!

The various radars available show us getting smacked with snow right now and there's not a flake in the air!!

Great. We've owned this f****** generator for nine years and it's started on the 2nd or 3rd pull every single time. Now it won't start. Not a good time to find out.

I hope the "freezing" part of "freezing rain" doesn't materialize.

Update: She started about an hour ago. I put Stabil in the gas tank last night with fresh gas. I let 'er run for about half an hour and set 'er aside just in case. In the meantime, I'll be looking into that Seafoam stuff.

Old gas?....That will gum the shit out of the carb.

On my generator I always turn off the gas valve and run the fuel line and carb dry. The manual doesn’t tell you this but it saves the gaskets and diaphragms from rotting.

I always do that, too. This one just has me flummoxed. Oh, well. It's working now.

May be time in the spring to do a rebuild on the carb.

Nope, fresh gas. In fact, I always drive up to a neighboring county to buy 100% gas for the tractor, generator, leaf blower, etc. instead of the 10% ethanol crap they force down our throats here. That stuff sucks moisture out of the air and deposits it in the bottom of the carb bowl.

Reminds me to run mine or make sure it starts anyway. I have to go get some premium gas for it and the snow blower I’ll be using to send the snow falling on my driveway to Melissa’s yard! ;;D

What are the odds that my snowblower will start?

I havent started it in two years and it still has the same gas....LOL ;;D

The guy next door and the guy across the street have plows, one of them always plows my driveway every storm. I make the wife shovel the walkway for the mailman..........no need for the snowblower....LMMFAO  [smiley=laugh.gif]

Finally - the white death is upon us!

I couldn't believe the grocery store this morning.  The snow hadn't even started and there were 15 customers deep in 8 checkout lines.  You'd think they never had a forecast of snow before!

We're doing Chicken and wild rice soup, bread, and maybe some three chip toffee for dessert.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!!

If Finland went nuts each time we get snow storms, the whole country would be shut down on several occasions between October and February. ;) We don't tend to worry that much about snow.

I even took a one hour leisure walk with a friend of mine during one of them, and because it had been snowing the whole day, we had lots of snow and more coming. It was one fun walk. :)

Back in here, schools never close beacuse of snow, stores and airports stay open and there's no problems with electricity. In fact, it's the fall storms, which cut the trees which can cut some powerlines and mean that some households lose their electricity for few hours.

So, let it snow, we'll be fine. :)

It's kind of raining, sleeting, just-plain-ickying here now . . .

Got about 4 inches of snow thus far but any rain will knock that down.

We had a total of about 1/2" of icing on everything by the time it started to warm up.  Temps rose to a fairly balmy 38F and changed over to rain.  Everything melted nicely without us having to put forth any effort  ;;D

Guess we'll have to wait for the next one to get the white stuff again.

Mel, it's great that your kids give a helping hand with the snow. :) And it's great that they can find the fun side of it, not just hard work. I used to love doing the same back at my childhood home. Back in there it's 3 families living next to each other, so the part our family "should" do is not that huge, so once I was done with ours, I went on and did the neighbours' share as well; once you get the hang of it, it's lots of fun.  ;;D

Potter,

I want to adopt Sandy, too.  I could use help when it snows.

For some reason, I now am in charge of snow removal for my two elderly neighbors.  Wasn't too bad in my younger years but now it's taking longer to recover from a day of shoveling snow.  The bod just doesn't bounce back like it used to. [smiley=laugh.gif]

I wonder what ever happened to kids going around the neighborhood making a few extra bucks by shoveling people's driveways and sidewalks?

Potter & Cyn, if someone pays for my travel & accomodation, I'm free to start anytime. ;;D

I actually don't have a clue what kind of arrangement mom & her neighbours have about snow this year. Mom can do her share, but one neighbour, Risto (the one I told you about) is back in hospital and he cannot lift a finger. And neighbours on the other side didn't do their bit ever, and even less chance to that now because they're moving out later this month. Past two years they've had some paid help from outside to take care of the snow, but I haven't heard about this year. If I still lived at home, I could do it, no problems.

It's windy as heck here too, Charlie.

My poor little 10 pound Miniature Dachshund almost took flight in the back yard this afternoon.  50 plus mph wind gusts are rough.

I have inherited 3 new trash cans from someone in the neighborhood and they are now rocking and rolling in the back yard.

White knuckled it on I-95 on the way to and from a doctor appointment.....Jeeps are not aerodynamic.

Gonna be a rough nite so hold on.

We are suppose to get 4 more inches of snow tomorrow!  It is a shame that they can not get all the streets cleared and not slippery because of all the freezing rain that fell on top of the snow.  We have a law in our city to protect the lakes from runoff that salt can not be used in the streets or sidewalks only sand.  Sooo that leaves one slick city.  My son is flying home from California tomorrow night.  Taking the redeye home.  He leaves LA at 10pm Tues night and gets to Detroit at 5am.  Leaves Detroit at 9am and gets to Madison at 9:30.  Hopefully the runways will be sanded well.  lol.  We did have a airplane run off the runway Sat during our last snow storm.  Please Lord let him make it here safely.

Title: Re: We have our very first Winter Storm Warning!
Post by brewcrew on Dec 3rd, 2007, 10:08pm
Are you kidding me? I can't believe the FAA would allow sand on the runways, let alone the owners of all those jet aircraft.

Sand and little pebbles that come with it = FOD

FOD = Foreign Object Damage

Airlines launch company-wide campaigns rewarding employees for finding this stuff and picking it up.

If this is true, it's the green movement gone mad!

More snow today. This time just tiny snowflakes, so not a lot. And, if if the news are correct, then by Thursday it all will be gone... :( Let's see how it turns out. Thursday is our Independence Day, my 4th in this city, and so far each Independence Day has been filled with snow; back in 2005 it was actually snowing some more on that day.
