Title: How can I manage this?
Post by Redd on Nov 23rd, 2007, 4:35pm
I have never been an EBay bidder or seller, however, I have found something there I wouldn't mind get getting if possible.  I'd rather not have to create an account for a one time purchase, but this item would simply make my Meg's Christmas day a sheer joy.

Any Ideas?

You cant buy without an account. Why not create one Redd? It's free and someday you might want to buy more...can be addictive tho.

Get a friend who has an account to buy it for you.

Cheers, Dave

Is there someone you know with an ebay account that could get it for you if you give them the money ?

I'd be more than happy to reimburse someone for the cost if I ended up winning the bid war.  I don't want an account like Dave suggested, because it IS addicting for many and I don't have the kind of income it takes to play that risk.

I should have an account still Redd. Drop me an email. I could get it for you by bidding what you want. I could even bid in the last few seconds for you. Remember, the seller does not have to "drop ship" it to you if you are using someone else to buy it...though many will.

LMAO Redd. It's not gambling. You can become a member and never buy anything. If you do decide to bid, don't be fooled because the highest bidder price is way lower than you're willing to pay.

90% of the people who win an auction puts their bid in at the last 4 seconds using a snipe bid. Good luck.

No bidding war required. Bid the maximum you want to pay for the item. Ebay will raise your bid automatically until your level is reached. Some used items sell for more than it is to buy them new, probably because people get excited by hand bidding.

Unless I really need the item, and it cannot not be found anywhere else I only bid 1/4 of what I think the item is worth.

So I did it.  I registered.  I talked to Dyl, asked him if Meg would be as excited as I thought she might be.

I know what this item retails for.  I Know that if I win with my max bid, it's worth it.

Dyl thinks Meg would faint if I got this.

Ok so I'm a softy for my kids.

Cool.

The best thing to do on e-bay is not to bid until the last minute Pegg. Put in on your watch list so you can monitor the price until then ;)

Holy Shiat Don, thats an awsom price but this is copied not original.  The "real" set is a 7 DVD's not 3.

I'll stick with the Ebay set which I know is authentic.

This guy has a lot more and does a lot of business. Check his "other" items...even more on the second page.

It wouldn't surprise me if he has multiples of this stuff too. Keep an eye on him.

Charlie you just confirmed the reason I never wanted to get involved in this Ebay shit.   Now that I'm in it's too damn late.  How do I get outta this mess?

Easy Redd. Retract your bid. Politely tell the seller you have a family obligation and have to leave town for a while.

If you do it soon enough, it shouldn't affect his auction.

I've sold thousands of things on Ebay. If someone retracts, I don't get mad. I understand sometimes people have a problem and need to retract.

It is better than them having to buy something they dont want or to just not complete the deal.

There is almost 4 days left Redd. Retract the bid now, and I don't feel the seller should have any complaint.

Some sellers don't like it, but as I said it is better that way sometimes.

Just go here and plug in the item number and reason. No big deal.

Why do you want out ? Just because the guy has more than one to sell ? If you think you bid too high, you probably didn't. Like I already said, most bids come in during the last few seconds so unless you overbid what you wanted to pay, you'll probably get outbid. If you do want to retract for whatever reason, you should do it immediately. I rarely have a bid retraction, but I don't mind if someone retracts right away. Waiting until the last day will kill an auction for the seller so don't wait if you feel the need.

I'll keep going I suppose.  Really don't have much choice if I don't want to pay the full 89.99 retail price for the set. (which I don't).

We'll see how this whole thing plays out.

Redd if he has several you have more chance of getting one - its good! Sometimes you get a second chance option when you get to buy it for your maximum bid even if you didn't win. It usually means either the winner dropped out OR he has several to sell so your chances of getting what you want for the price you want are better in this scenario - I hope that puts your mind at rest a little bit!

All I know is that I hope I don't become an ebay addict.  I think I found something for Dyl too, but the shipping fees seem awful high.

Again sometimes the price is set very low - especially on a "buy it now" but the shipping is higher. Its a way for sellers to avoid paying ebay a percentage of the sale price. My advice is work out your maximum that you're happy to pay including the P&P and then detract the P&P and bid that.

Ebay is fantastic as long as you remember, you don't get nuffink for nuffink!! Always look at a sellers feedback too - I learned that one the hard way!

Post by Rosybabe on Nov 24th, 2007, 10:39am
I agree with Helen, I never buy anything from a seller who has less than 99.7 feedback and I read the feedback comments, always and if the seller is new I check really well his other auctions and his terms of sell, like if you can return an item or if he has restocking fees, etc, etc, etc.

I also buy from amazon and its market place. I had good deals there also. I  bought Shrek the Third for $10.00 including shipping and the movie arrived just 3 days after brand sparkling new. It is $19.99 in walmart  :D.

Works to shop around....

Ok...so Dyl's came first.  Won it on a whim with 3 minutes left.  3 swords with the display rack.  Shipping included all total was $33.98.

So have I been had?

Actually no Pegg, I don't think so.  I was going to get one of those sets for Lily, but then she didn't take the samurai(sp) sword in weapons class.  I looked at all those and that's about the going price for the low end on eBay. (the higher ones are WAY too expensive for my budget!)

I think ya did good! ;)

Sorry Redd. I thought you were joking when you wrote that you wanted to get out of your bid....never a problem.

You bought a Samurai...Geeze. They are unique.
Things are sharp Redd http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/bad samurai.gif

There are Japanese at every antique and gun show buying originals indirectly from our vets that took them as souvenirs. Lotta money made that way.
