Title: Re: I'm draggin my ass... Post by Mosaicbrew on Nov 22nd, 2007, 11:13am I already made the pies and the neighbors are having us for dinner so it's jammies and lots of coffee for the brew crew today. We got 2 inches of snow last night and it feels more like Christmas than Thanksgiving - sans decorations. I woke micro-brew up by yelling "Get up! The Great Turkey left presents for you under the Turkey tree!!" He'll never forgive me. http://www.parrottimes.com/forums/images/smilies/happ3.gif |

Title: Re: I'm draggin my ass... Post by George_J on Nov 22nd, 2007, 11:33am Can't drag my ass, or no one will eat. ;) Liz doesn't do cooking (never has). Ellen's my co-cook. We made the fresh cranberries early this morning, and they're in the fridge. Got the turkey in the oven. (I do it a little differently every year--this year I'm basting it with butter, herbs de provence, and a dollop of sherry. Put a few sprigs of fresh rosemary in the pan.) Stuffing's made already. All I have to do is heat it up. I'll put together the gnoshing platter in a few minutes. Gotta have some pre-dinner munchies, you know......dry salami, sopresseta, chavrie, sharp cheddar, and brie cheese, different sorts of crackers, dried apricots, walnuts, and pitted dates. Later on comes clutch time--wild rice, potatoes and gravy, yams, broccoli, all going at once. That's when I'll need my co-cook, bigtime. ;;D I'm making a couple of apple pies this year, but everyone likes it warm--so I'll make them after dinner. Fun stuff. I like this holiday. Best, George |

Title: Re: I'm draggin my ass... Post by brewcrew on Nov 22nd, 2007, 11:45am George - Sounds delicious. You're a good man. Might I ask: What is sopresseta? |

Title: Re: I'm draggin my ass... Post by Melissa on Nov 22nd, 2007, 12:00pm Ok, Lily came home at 10am from hunting so I didn't have to worry about dressing Eli and taking him out. Went to the local grocery store and picked up the meat & cheese tray I won a couple weeks ago (I ordered it to be made today), dropped it off at my father-in-laws, and am now munchin on celery & dill dip till I through a cheese fry in the oven at 11:30am. Then I'm stickin the gobbler in the oven at 1pm. I won't be making the taters & gravy till about 2 hours before GO time and will keep them warm in a nesco & crockpot. Ohforpetesake!! |

Title: Re: I'm draggin my ass... Post by George_J on Nov 22nd, 2007, 12:54pm Wine. I used to serve the Beaujolais Nouveau every year for Thanksgiving (it comes out about now) but I gave that up after a couple of blech years--one year it tasted like strawberry bubble gum, and another year it tasted like bananas. I suppose the traditional choice with turkey might be a sauvignon blanc, or a chardonnay, but we like reds--so I'm serving an Australian Shiraz. Wine snobs may whine, but they can bite me. El will have sparkling cider. :) I got a bottle of B&B to put into snifters and heat in front of the fire after dessert this evening. Don't have to go anywhere, so I might have two. ;) Happy Thanksgiving, all. Best, George |

Title: Re: I'm draggin my ass... Post by PollyPocket on Nov 22nd, 2007, 1:19pm pumpkin pies- done stuffing - ready for baking acorn squash - ready for baking turkey - almost done gravy to go. the rest of the family is bringing the side dishes. Now to deal with the stress: is it too early for a glass of wine? |

Title: Re: I'm draggin my ass... Post by Redd on Nov 22nd, 2007, 2:19pm Turkey is in the oven. Rosemary potatos are roasting along side. Dressing is ready to be warmed through while the dinner rolls bake and the Broccolli steams and I make the gravy. No desserts on the docket, as I doubt we'll have room for it after we eat the rest of the stuff. Jen, I've already had one beer, and will have some wine a bit later. Then more wine while I finalize the table, and carve the Turkey for the meal. Kids called the legs already...LOL. Then more wine while I carve the leftovers to take to the office tomorrow for sandwiches. |

Title: Re: I'm draggin my ass... Post by Lizzie2 on Nov 23rd, 2007, 12:33am Just got home from working in the Intensive Care Nursery 3p-11p. Actually this wasn't my holiday to work (I'm working Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 7a-7p), but I had accidentally put myself on, and then work wouldn't take me off! ANYWAY - we're having our Thanksgiving on Friday since I was working tonight, and I'm totally psyched that it can finally begin now!!! Hope everyone else had a happy turkey day!! I had child drawing turkeys on my scrubs tonight, so they made me smile at least. Oh and we had thanksgiving at work - I brought nut bread, but by the time I got there, the food had been out since 11a- but still was quite good! We had a ton of food! Much to be thankful for!! Also I'm thankful that the day did end! hehe Hugz, Carrie :) |
